Successful Women of San Diego Friday, March 8, 2019 About the Speakers Ashley Brenton, PhD, Chief Science Officer, Soteria Precision Medicine Advisory, Inc. Dr. Ashley Brenton, PhD is a precision medicine veteran. A classically trained molecular biologist, Dr. Brenton s career has focused on applying genomics to public health issues and she has a proven track record in building scientific evidence for precision medicine, as well as bringing successful precision medicine tests to commercialization. Dr. Brenton began her career at Johns Hopkins and her background in public health and genomics led her to Soteria, where she strives to help patients and their families navigate the often-complicated world of medicine through clear communication and an expert understanding of cutting-edge medical testing. Kate Broderick, PhD, Vice President, Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Broderick has a broad background in the product development and device development DNA therapeutic and drug delivery field, with specific expertise in in vivo DNA vaccine animal studies and product development in relation to electroporation. Her particular area of focus is electroporation device design specifically pertaining to skin delivery and she has been central to the development of Inovio novel prototypes and designs. Dr. Broderick has authored and co-authored over 60 peer reviewed article and her group regularly publish their findings and present their work in the public forum at conferences. Due to her expertise in the area, Dr. Broderick has been invited to participate in WHO advisory meetings related to DNA vaccines and their delivery. Dr. Broderick is also a co-inventor on multiple patents related to DNA vaccine delivery and is principal investigator on grants, awards and contracts from funding bodies such as NIH, Department of Defense, SBIR, and CEPI. Dr. Broderick received her PhD from the University of Glasgow in Scotland and performed her post-doctoral research at the University of California, San Diego. She joined Inovio Pharmaceuticals in 2006 where she currently leads a diverse research group focused on enhanced delivery techniques for gene based therapeutics as the Vice President, Preclinical R&D. Jennifer Carver, BSN, MBA, Chief Operating Officer, La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company Ms. Carver has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry with leadership experience in pharmaceutical drug development from early development through commercialization. Carver joined La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company in February 2014 and as head of operations is responsible for business development, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical operations, legal operations, project management, information technology, and quality. Prior to joining La Jolla, she held positions at Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Allos Therapeutics, Inc. She has successfully led teams from early development to market approval including NDA submissions, ODAC preparation and conduct, and commercial launch planning. Carver has played a critical role in managing key alliances and partnerships from early negotiation through business integration. She earned her BSN and MBA from the University of Colorado. Claire Weston, PhD, Founder and CEO, Reveal Biosciences Dr. Weston received her PhD in Cell Biology from Cambridge University (U.K.) and performed postdoctoral research on MAPK signaling pathways with Professor Roger Davis at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has a track record of success in signal transduction and cancer research and is also an expert in the preparation of microscopy and histology samples having previously established a histology facility to characterize a wide variety of knockout mice and disease models. Dr. Weston has worked within Molecular Pathology at GlaxoSmithKline and led Digital Pathology at Vala Sciences developing quantitative multiplex cancer diagnostic assays.
