How is a microphone like an ear drum? Frequency Sound Wavelength Audio Signal Students will be able to explain frequency, wavelength, proximity effect, and bass roll off. Students will have an understanding of how sound works down to a molecular level. Students will learn about sound, how it travels, sound waves and frequencies. Which mics do I use for recording which instruments? Cadioid Condenser Dynamic Diaphragm CD Player SWBAT set up microphones for a keyboard, horn, voice, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and drums. We will learn about condenser, ribbon, and dynamic mics. We will learn how placement of these mics in setup change the sound. (mic pickup patterns.) What is the difference between direct pickups and transformers? Wireless Mic Pickups Transformers GarageBand GarageBand Students will be introduced to GarageBand, an elementary music program. This will allow students to learn how to sample loops. Project: Mistah DJ We will go over how a wireless mic works and what advantages/disadvantages there are. We will learn how direct pickups can be plugged directly into the system w/o a mic. We will learn about condenser, ribbon, and dynamic mics. We will learn how placement of these mics in setup change the sound. (mic pickup patterns.) Project to be used at a school dance. Loops Clipping Input Overload MAC OS X Various Mics Preamp Monitors Students will be able to use top of the line recording software to combine prerecorded loops with midi instruments and live performers to record to create their own music. Students will begin to use what they have learned in GarageBand to begin using, the best recording software available. They will learn how to record midi input as well as the basics of the mics we ve been using. Overview of clipping and input overload. We will record and mix for a local band who has already volunteered to work. Students will use effects, loops, etc. to make their music sound professional. What possibilities will this offer? Loop Browser, Midi Device, Live Audio Students will learn how to download a movie and float it in LogicPro. They will wipe off all audio on the program and use loops and prerecorded music to import to the movie trailer. Project: Mood Swings Project: Foreign Film Fest We will have a film critique day where the students will show their projects in the big screen and eat popcorn. We will vote for the best trailer. June - The arts serve multiple functions: enlightenment, education, and entertainment. Can I record a large ensemble? Monitor DAW MAC OS X GarageBand Various Mics Preamp Monitors Mixing Board Students will be able to take what they learned in this course and record bands, singers, and large ensembles on their own. They will also be equipped with an audio portfolio to take home and share their work. Students will learn how to mic a large group and mix it, adding a little bit of reverb and other effects.
