Kashmir Led Zeppelin TUNING: D, A, D, G, B, E This one is VERY challenging to play and sing so it will take some practice. Riffs Used Riff 1: The riff above is the opening intro to the song. Fingerings:

The above continues to this.. This series of riffs is played throughout the entire first verse a total of four times. The pickup lines for the vocals are noted as: x507xx x502xx x503xx x504xx x505xx and the O notes the open Low E string. Riff 2:

The above is played twice, then it goes to this.. Riff 3: If you ll notice it is just an abridged version of Riff 1. Riff 4: Technically this is still Riff 3, but there s an added x504xx, but you can omit it if you want and consider it riff 3. Riff 5: Fingerings:

This riff is the same as riff 2, except in the last part where you play the added A string and D string notes. These are played with 16 th notes or any easier way is to say that it is played double time of the riff in riff 2. This is only played once. Riff 6: Fingerings: This one will require a bit of understanding in timing, but following along with me will help tremendously. You ll play the first bar (first three measures) a total of 4 times. You ll then follow up with the same riff series again but no riff at the end. Strumming Patterns:

DUD for riffs 1, 3, and 4. When you see a 0 just add a downstroke. All D for riffs 2, 5 and 6. For the G5* to A5* just play DDUD, DD, DDUD Intro: Riff 1 Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream.. I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed Riff 2 then Riff 3 Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear (adlib a bunch of whoas ) Riff 1 again. Riff 2 again. Riff 4.. Riff 5. Bridge: (played with Riff 6) (2 2 2) (12-2) (2) (2 2 2) (12-2) (riff) Ooooh...baby..I been flying... (2 2 2) (12-2) (2) (2 2 2) (12-2) (riff) Oooh yeah..baby there ain't no denyin' (2 2 2) (12-2) (2) (2 2 2) (12-2) (riff) Ooooh...yeah..I been flying... (2 2 2) (12-2) (2 2 2) (12-2) (riff) Maaaaaaaama.. ain't no denyin' (2 2 2) (12-2) (2 2 2) (12-2) Ain t no.denyin.

Riff 2 again (note: below you will see a G5* and A5*. Since we have tuned to drop d, the G is now on the 5 th fret and the A is now on the 7 th fret due to note order. However, the 5 just indicates that it is a power chord. In this case you ll play it like this: G5 = 55xxxx A5 = 77xxxx) All I see turns to brown, as the sun as the sun..burns the ground And my eyes, my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land. Trying to find, trying to find where I've been. Riff 1 again. (another note: there are various versions of the following verse. I am offering you both with the alternate verse. These are NOT played two times. It s one or the other.) Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream Alternate verse: Oh, my love the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream Hear the band that led me to that place, yellow desert scream (I know it seems weird, but those are 100% correct! Must have been a reason.) (cont d.) My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return.again Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir. Alternate verse: My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return.again

As the dust that/it floats behind you.we re movin through Kashmir. Riff 2. Riff 3. Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years With no provision but an open face, along* (or beyond) the straits of fear (adlib Whoaaahh ) Riff 1 Riff 2 Riff 3 Riff 2 (below is another optional line. It comes in on the second G5* A5*) When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah ------------------------------------------------------- Alternate change on 2 nd G5* - A5*: When I feel, when I think my brain to stay. (outro) To end this song logically, just repeat the progression of: G5* - A5* over and over, then end on G5*
