SPEAKERS Denise Moreno Ducheny (Welcome remarks) Senior Policy Adviser, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies Prior to joining UC San Diego, Ducheny served in the California State Senate from 2002 to 2010, representing the 40th District, and in the California State Assembly from 1994 to 2000. She was awarded the Ohtli Award by s Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the board of the Border Environment Cooperation Commission and North American Development Bank. Hernan Fernandez (Session III) Managing Partner, Angel Ventures Fernandez is one of the founding partners of Angel Ventures, the leading Angel Investment Network in that launched the AVM-I Co-investment Fund, a $20 million fund with 12 investments to date. Fernandez also has worked for Booz & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Andrea Giralt (Session III) President, Giralt Consulting Giralt consults on business strategy, supply chain, manufacturing and operations management. With more than 20 years of upper-management experience, she has managed operations for a number of businesses during periods of both declining sales and rapid growth. Remedios Gomez Arnau (Afternoon remarks) Mexican Consul General in San Diego Gomez Arnau has served as consul general for 13 years, including six in San Diego. She was academic secretary and associate researcher at the Center for Research on North America at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where her research interests included the U.S.- bilateral relationship. Claudio X. Gonzalez (Session II) President and Co-founder, Mexicanos Primero In addition to Mexicanos Primero, a plural and independent social responsibility initiatives focused on achieving equal quality education across, Gonzalez also is the co-founder of several social initiatives to improve education in, including Fundación Televisa, MX Bécalos and UNETE. Judith Mariscal (Session II) Professor, Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) Mariscal researches information and communications technologies (ICT) policy for development in Latin America as well as on ICT regulatory policies. A member at the highest level of the National Research System in, she also is director of the Telecommunications Research Program at CIDE. Paz Consuelo Marquez-Padilla (Session I) Professor, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) Marquez-Padilla is interested in federalism, democracy, neoconservatism and international justice. Formerly, she was director of UNAM and of the journal Voices of. She was awarded the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz prize in 2007 and the Mérito AAPAUNAM in 2014.

SPEAKERS Jeremy Martin (Session II) Director of Energy Program, Institute of the Americas Martin explores the geopolitics of energy and closely follows energy industry trends and policy issues across the Americas. He is a frequent commentator and writer on Latin American and energy issues, including testifying before the U.S. Congress. Jose Merino (Session III) Director, Data4 and Professor, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México Merino s most recent research focuses on Mexican violence and its causes. In 2013, he founded Data4, a data consultancy in for data collection, analysis, management and visualization. William Ostick (Afternoon remarks) U.S. Consul General in Tijuana A career foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State, Ostick holds jurisdiction over the Baja California Peninsula. Prior to this assignment, he served as director for the Office of Brazilian and Southern Cone Affairs for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. David Shirk (Session II) Director, Justice in Project A two-time USMEX fellow, Shirk is director of University of San Diego s Justice in initiative. His research concerns Mexican politics, U.S.-Mexican relations, and law enforcement and security along the U.S.-Mexican border. Chris Wilson (Session I) Deputy Director, Institute at the Wilson Center Wilson leads the Institute s research and programming on regional economic integration and U.S.- border affairs.
