GRADE 3 Summer is here! Time to make exciting plans!! A time to recharge and reboot. A time to try out something new, something enjoyable. Maybe visit a place that you have never gone to before? Do something that you have always wanted to try but never have. May even discover a new hobby! You might even get to know a new you! Summer is a time to rediscover the world around you. It is also a perfect time for relaxing, spending time with friends, and taking a break. A time to listen to your heart and follow it! Here are some activities that you can choose from, if you wish.

Remember, these are only suggestions and you are free to do something that we have not mentioned here! It s great to start your day with some stretching exercises. Each morning, plan your day. It might be a good idea to organize your room, maybe rearrange it just for fun! Don t forget to tidy up your room frequently If you have a pet, spend time with it. Request your mother/didi to let you help them to make something simple in the kitchen maybe make sandwiches or nimbu pani. Write out some of your favourite recipes! Visit friends or invite them over. Pull out your favourite board games and play those with your family or friends. Get a sapling or some seeds. Plant them. Water them. Watch them blossom! Visit a historical monument. Delhi has so many of them! Visit your nana/nani, dada/dadi. Enjoy the stories they tell you or you could read to them

Find your roots! Draw a family tree. Create a collage with pictures, phone numbers and e mail ids. Make brightly coloured paper weights out of rounded stones. Make a bird bath by colouring a terracotta pot, fill it with water and hang it up. You will be pleasantly surprised to see some winged friends visiting you during the hot summer days! Paint bright summer pictures on T-Shirts and enjoy wearing them!! Challenge: Spend the entire day without TV or video games. Help your parents by doing a chore for them without being asked. Make it a habit. Do it everyday. Make 3 different patterns with at least 10 shapes in each pattern.

Reading Bingo! Reading is dreaming with open eyes. Read a story to an adult then ask them questions about it. Make a den and read a book inside it. Read aloud a book with lots of expression. Read a book and then draw a new cover for it. Read the beginning of a story and invent your own ending. Read a story and then invent a title. Read a story, substituting the main character s name for yours. Invent a story about a monster. Listen to an adult read a newspaper article and summarize it. Read a picture book then re-tell the story in your own words. Read two books. Which do you prefer and why? Read a story and invent a sequel to it. Read a book with an adult, reading alternate sentences. Read a book and describe a character from it, in as much detail as possible.

An interesting project for you: We Earthlings are a part of the large Solar Family! Find some interesting facts about our Sun, our Moon and other planets in our Solar system. You could then make a booklet or a model out of waste.

Reading List Some of the books that you can look for are: Panchatantra Stories, Aesop s Fables, Amar Chitra Katha, Ruskin Bond s Stories for children, books by Enid Blyton, books by Roald Dahl, Grimm s Fairy Tales, Stories about Akbar and Birbal or any other book that you like in English as well as Hindi. A list of books to keep you busy during your holidays: Stuart Little by E.B White Marley-A Dog Like No Other by John Grogen A Dollop of Ghee and a Pot of Wisdom by Chitra Soundar Some useful links: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/ http://www.turtlediary.com/ http://www.knowledgeadventure.com/ http://www.ezschool.com/grade3/english/ At times DO NOTHING! Just day dream! Yes, try that it can be so relaxing and fun So children, whatever you decide to do this summer just HAVE FUN and STAY COOL!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS
