4. SITE DESCRITION 4.1. GENERAL SITE CHARACTER: Habitat classes % cover Dry grassland, Steppes 12,58 Non-forest areas cultivated with woody plants (including Orchards, 1,3 groves, Vineyards, Dehesas) Mixed woodland 10,77 Broad-leaved deciduous woodland 2,21 Heath, Scrub, Maquis and Garrigue, hygrana 49,87 Shingle, Sea cliffs, Islets 2,4 Coastal sand dunes, Sand beaches, Machair 0,05 Coniferous woodland 20,82 Total habitat cover 100 % Other site characteristics Agrafa is the southern limit of the indos massif. It is a series of high peaks, covered mostly by Abies borii-regis and other conifers. In the alpine zone there are extended pastures. 4.2. QUALITY AND IMORTANCE: This site is very important for birds of prey such as the Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the eregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and the Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus). It is also important for the Chough (yrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) a corvid whose distribution in Greece is very limited and its numbers are declining. 4.3. VULNERABILITY oaching and poisoning are the most serious threats for birds of prey. Abandonment of cultivations and traditional stock raising are also very serious threats, especially for vultures and Choughs. The most serious threat for the White-backed Woodpecker is the coppicing of mature woodland and habitat defragmentation. 4.4. SITE DESIGNATION: 4.5. OWNERSHI ublic and community. 4.6.
