Tls required: A. Wrenches r ratchets, used fr attaching the elements t the bm and the bm t the mast. 1. 7/16" 2. 1/2" 3. 9/16" B. A 3/8" nut driver, r small crescent wrench fr the feedpint 10-24 nuts. C. Screwdriver t back-up the 10-24 feedpint machine screws. D. Hand riveter, als called a "POpTM", r blind riveter. These are available frm the cmpany, a lcal hardware stre, r pssibly yur dealer where this antenna was purchased. This is used t secure the element sectins tgether. Use the smallest nzzle (tip) fr the 1/8" rivets. E. A rpe t hist the antenna int psitin. F. Sme patience and cmmn sense - be careful, as antennas can cme int cntact with high vltage lines and they are lethal. Als, be careful installing, as twers and masts are als dangerus. Thanks The antenna is shipped in sub-assemblies and each assembly sectin is apprpriately identified. There are three (3) elements and each ne is divided int tw (2) halves: "A" and "B". The assembly sectins are then numbered cnsecutively frm the inside ut t the tip with the element number first, such as: A and B, 2A and 2B, 3A and 3B, etc., since there is never the same size tubing twice n a side! f they are identified as A and B, matching up the tapering sizes fr each slement side is all that is required. Element #1 is the 20 meter reflectr. The drawing will assist in this prcess. Assembly requires nly that the identificatins are matched. All the rivet hles are pre-drilled and will align exactly when the prper sectins are matched. The driver element is split at the center and fed with 50 hm cax thrugh either a 1: balun, r an RF chke (i.e. 8 turns, 10" diameter circle). The bm is in several sectins and is marked A-A, B-B, etc. Matching these sectins and inserting the 114-20 blts will cmplete the bm assembly. The aluminum mill markings are left n the tubing. f it is desired t remve them, mst slvents will wipe them away. Any markings made at the Frce 12 factry will quickly fade. Assembly nstructins: NOTES: ) Althugh the entire antenna has already been pre-assembled, it might be a gd idea t duble-check the measurements, especially n the elements. Please let us knw if there are any discrepancies. Thanks. dw3201s.006 FORCE 12 EF-320/320D Assembly nstructins Page 2 f 8
2) When using the hand riveter, please be sure the smallest nzzle is in the tl. Smetimes with a larger nzzle, the mandrel f the rivet can get crked within the tl, which can result in breaking the mandrel befre the rivet is "ppped." The smaller nzzle als makes a smth finish n the rivet head. 3) The "A" and "B" halves f the elements are arbitrarily marked, s they d nt need t be matched fr a particular side (i.e. all half-side "A"'s n a certain side f the bm). The markings are simply fr ease in assembly. 4) The PVC element insulatrs mayr may nt be already installed n each element. There are tw sizes (in diameter) f PVC and they are easy t relate t each element. Slide the apprpriate size ver the element and center it n the largest tubing in the element (which will be the center piece). The lnger pieces g n the nn-driver elements. The drivers use tw shrt pieces and they g n bth sides f the center insulatr, just utside f the 10-24 machine screws.. ELEMENT ASSEMBLY 00) NOTE: this entire antenna has already been assembled at the factry. This is hw the hles get drilled and hw the sub-assemblies are made. This means that every piece will align prperly, prvided that they are being assembled in the right psitin. OOa) t shuld never be necessary t drill a hle fr a rivet, r blt. OOb) Each element is dis-assembled and separately bundled, s wrking with ne element at a time is the best methd. This will ensure that nly the parts fr a particular element are available fr assembly at ne time. OOc) Please check the measurements and the element psitins t duble check us at the factry. t is rare that a marking mistake is made, but it can happen. 0) Each element is tapered and the taper runs smaller twards the tip. Each sectin slides int anther and t ensure a nice fit, the larger ne is crimped/swaged t reduce its size slightly. This means that ne end f each sectin is crimped/swaged and the reduced size f ne end can be clearly seen. Only the tip is nt dne in this manner, since it is the end f the element. Oa) Please be sure that the nn-crimped/swaged end ges int the crimped/swaged end f the larger piece. Ob) f the rivet hles d nt align, please check t be sure the sectin is riented prperly and that the crrect side (A r B) is n the crrect side. t shuld nt be necessary t drill any hles. Oc) Thanks. 1) Layut the element assembly sectins fr element #1 (the reflectr). a) Side A b) SideB 2) Apply Nalx cmpund t each f the sectins that will slip int anther. This can be a thin cat, spread evenly alng and arund the prtin that is inserted int the larger tubing. 3) Starting at the tip, slide the tip int the next larger sectin and align the rivet hles. a) nsert the supplied 1/8" rivets int all rivet hles. t is imprtant t insert all the rivets befre any are pulled; therwise, there is a pssibility that the ther hles might nt align prperly. T lessen this pssibility, the hles are drilled t the actual rivet size (118"), which makes fr a tight alignment and snug hle. f at any time it dw3201s.006 FORCE 12 EF-320/320D Assembly nstructins Page 3 f 8
