Tulsa Audubon Society 2017 Annual Report Paul W. Ribitzki, Recorder

The information contained in this report was taken from the records of the Tulsa Audubon Society for the calendar year 2017. A summary containing all of the rare species reported is included. The data is presented in two formats. One is a compilation of species reported by season. This is a listing of the first and last dates reported, the number of field reports per season, the number of individuals per season, the total number of reports, and the total number of individuals. The species are divided into five reporting seasons: Permanent, Summer, & Winter Residents and Spring & Fall Migrants. These time periods are based on the dates provided in the Oklahoma Ornithological Society's Date Guide to the Occurrences of Birds in Oklahoma, Sixth Edition. The second is a graphical representation of the same data. It provides a percentage of the total count of a species reported for the year by the week reported. Each increment of each bar graph is equal to 1 to 10% of the total count. The seasons are color coded starting with January 1st at the left. This data is skewed towards two major reporting periods: the TAS Tulsa County Spring Bird Count and the National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count. It should not be concluded that the abundance of these species peak at these times. This report includes birds that were submitted directly to Cornell University's EBIRD database for the TAS reporting area. This report also offers a brief comparison of the 2016 and 2017 records. There were 268 species totaling 246,787 individuals in 23,021 field reports in 2017. The 2016 data contained 263 species that totaled 270,782 individuals in 19,773 field reports. There were 16 species reported in 2016 that were not recorded in 2017 and 21 reported in 2017 that were not seen in 2016. The reporting area includes all of Tulsa County, all of Lake Keystone, and up to five miles into the bordering counties of Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Wagoner, and Washington. Species Reported in 2016, but not in 2017 White-winged Scoter Western Grebe Magnificent Frigatebird Anhinga Sandhill Crane Black-necked Stilt Inca Dove Black-billed Cuckoo Barn Owl Black-chinned Hummingbird Veery Connecticut Warbler Hooded Warbler American Redstart Townsend's Warbler Red Crossbill Species Reported in 2017, but not in 2016 Black-bellied Whistling-Duck Tundra Swan Neotropic Cormorant Willet Marbled Godwit Sanderling Dunlin California Gull Iceland Gull Caspian Tern Eastern Whip-poor-will Rufous Hummingbird Say's Phoebe Vermilion Flycatcher Blue-winged Warbler American Redstart Cerulean Warbler Bay-breasted Warbler Blackburnian Warbler Brewer's Sparrow Black-headed Grosbeak Page 2 of 23
