1 新約綜覽 I (NTS 501, 3 Units) Fall Semester, 2018 ( 週二上課 ) Instructor: Dr. Wei Ho Wu Email: wuweiho@gmail.com I. Course Description: This is a survey course to the four Gospels and Acts. It includes the contents of each book, along with historical background, literary characteristics, and theological message of each book, in addition to introducing current research and issues, for the purpose of fostering Christian practice. II. Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students should be able: 1. To describe the major events of the first century settings (historical background) of the Gospels and Acts. 2. To grasp the contents, literary features, and theological message of each book; 3. To interpret selected texts from the five books by using critical method(s); 4. To integrate and apply the messages of the five books in ways that foster Christian practice. III. Course Requirements: 1. Readings: (1) Read each of the biblical books two times according to class schedule, one version in Mandarin and one version in English. (2) Read the passages selectively from the textbook and books for reference. The minimum reading requirement is 900 pages. Bible reading is not accumulated for reading pages. Every student is required to read at least 300 pages in English. Report this reading assignment to Dr. Wu before 11/27. 2. Essay paper: A typed essay paper is to be turned in before 10/30 to show exegetical skills in handling of a passage in the Gospels/Acts in words about 4,500 in Chinese or 3,500 in English. 3. Oral report: By choosing a biblical passage provided by the instructor, every student is to share the main theme(s) from that passage in class within seven minutes.
