ART ON BROADWAY GALLERY NEWSMay 2012 Our artists are always busy, and participate in art functions within and outside of our gallery. Here are some of the current and upcoming events involving Art On Broadway artists: Art on Broadway Member Show features Roberta Babcock and Clarise Kinney Dog and Pony Show - Reception May 5th 6-9 p.m. Clay sculptor Roberta Babcock and painter Clarise Kinney display their unique abilities to capture individual personalities of animals in clay and acrylic on canvas. The public is invited to a free Artists Reception on Saturday, May 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. to honor both artists and their latest work. Their work will be up for the month of May. Roberta Babcock Sculpture
Babcock is able to manipulate her clay figures to extreme lengths by incorporating steel to reinforce and stabilize the slender elongated legs of her sculptures as they endure the raku process. Raku is a process by which the clay is fired at 1850 degrees and while still red hot is moved to a closed container with combustible materials such newspaper, pine needles and dry leaves collected from Babcock s own yard. These materials ignite for a reduction smoke process which causes unpredictable colors and patterns on the surface. Included in the exhibit will be whimsical figures of horses and dogs of raku or stoneware. Clarise Kinney Dog Portrait Kinney s medium is acrylic on canvas and her love of animals is instantly evident in the portraits of the dogs and cats she paints. A slight turn of the head, the wetness of the nose, the flopping of the ears, the devotion in the eyes of the subject all are captured in each of her paintings. Kinney specializes in commission work.

The show opens May 3 and continues through June 2, 2012. Depicted in oils, watercolor, pastels and acrylics, works in this exhibit are a celebration of the physical beauty of the Northwest.
