The work is arguably rooted in Austrian Impressionism and Expressionism, but long ago achieved a degree of autonomy and diversity, which led to an abstract classification. The landscape paintings are clearly the focus of his work. Over the past few years he has adopted many other additional interesting themes, including musicians? portraits, interiors, free vagaries, and pictures of the Bible just to name a few, which show that his work has continued to develop. Formal top heavy experiments are still strange for him, and the pictures are much more impressive in their optical vitality. By no means is Hans Andreas a naive instinctive painter, but rather spontaneity and spirited color applications are themes and motif selection is well thought out and carefully prepared. The dynamic application of color lends the pictures an expressive excitement and peculiar depth effect. The surface is angular, crater like and cross-grained and resists a smooth, pleasing painting. In the characteristic style of the artist pictures emerge with a complexion that ranges from wild and vibrant fauvism to harmonic subdued colors." (E.H.) From: IBM Art Calendar 2001
