Introduction Ink is a liquid or paste that contains pigments or dyes and is used to color a surface to produce an image, text, or design. Ink is used for drawing or writing with a pen, brush, or quill. Thicker inks, in paste form, are used extensively in letterpress and lithographic printing. Ink can be a complex medium, composed of solvents, pigments, dyes, resins, lubricants, solubilizers, surfactants, particulate matter, fluorescers, and other materials. The components of inks serve many purposes; the ink s carrier, colorants, and other additives affect the flow and thickness of the ink and its appearance when dry. Source: Wikipedia
How does wax work in a ink film? Wax particles Wax particles Wax particles Ink film After drying the wax particles are embedded into the ink film. Some parts of the wax particles are emerging out of the ink film. Protecting the film against rubbing or scratching by absorbing the deformation energy. They also work as anti-blocking (distance keepers) to substrates touching the ink film like the next printed page. Last but not least slip properties are increased due to a smaller contact area only gliding on the edges of the wax particles.

How does a wax give matting? paint/lacquer substrate High gloss paint/lacquer substrate Low gloss On a smooth surface (pic. left) rays of light are 100% reflected in the same angle as they touch the surface of the ink, our eyes recognize it as shiny or glossy. If this reflection angle is changed and the ray of light is scattered our eyes recognize it as matt. The same is applicable for ink as for coating layers.
Which Ceridust should be used when? CERIDUST 3715 & CERIDUST 9610F in water Which type of Ceridust is used in which type of system mainly depends on the solvents used and the compatibility of certain waxes to certain solvents. So polar waxes can be used in polar solvents and non polar waxes should be preferred for non polar solvents. What happens if non polar Ceridust 9610F is used in a polar solvent like water can be seen on the left.
How to disperse CERIDUST? One of the most important points of using Ceridust is the incorporation into the ink system. To prevent agglomerates high sheer forces are necessary. For this purpose three roll mills, ball mills or dissolver can be used. To minimize the risk of agglomerates Ceridust should not get in contact with any metal parts of the vessel but should be added right here.

CERIDUST 9615 A a clever mix of properties CERIDUST 9615 A is a well balanced wax combination. This outstanding combination offers excellent rub resistance in offset shed fed and gravure printing inks. Micronized products tend to form soft agglomerates caused by humidity or electrostatic charging, not CERIDUST 9615 A. The absence of agglomerates makes CERIDUST9615 A easy to dispers and prevents agglomerate related productions problems. PE wax CERIDUST 9615 A FT wax
