We live in an Urban World

Some cities are becoming smarter but What is a Smart City?

Traditional definition Being a Smart City means using all available technology and resources in an intelligent and coordinated manner to develop urban centers that are at once integrated, habitable and sustainable

A smart city is defined as the ability to integrate multiple technological solutions in a secure fashion to manage the city s assets the city s assets include, but not limited to, local departments information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, law enforcement, and other community services. The goal of building a smart city is to improve the quality of life by using technology to improve the efficiency of services and meet residents needs. Wikipedia

Each city is different Which level of Collaboration? Collaboration is key (one more time) Open standards vs. Proprietary standards One leading company vs. partnerships The role of IT Technology in isolation is unlikely to make a city smart. In any case, people will be choosing cities for more that its technology. Only when the technology is connected to the needs and aspirations of citizens will its full potential be realized.
