Stage Managers: John Keller and Mike Stark Here is some info about how the evening works, and a few new things to know: Band order: Bud will shortly release the complete band rosters and schedule. (See For Musicians page on website) Arrival time: Band leaders should plan to be at the venue Friday by 5 (show starts at 6). Band members should be at the venue at least one hour before they are scheduled to perform. If they can t, please let Mike know ASAP. Performance Time: As always, we have a very tight schedule for the night, so please make sure you pay attention to how long your set is. Remember, you have 20 minutes to do whatever you want on stage, including setup. If you have a large group, it may take more than a few minutes to get everyone organized; still, you have 20 minutes for everything. Please be respectful of your colleagues and plan accordingly. If there is a snafu along the way, and we try to work around those as best as possible. But if you have unexpected equipment problems that eat up a chunk of your time, we may ask you to cut one song to help keep things onschedule Be ready! As in years past, the jam volunteers and crew work hard to make sure everyone gets the full rock star experience, but it does require the bands to be tuned-up and ready to go on-stage at their allotted time. John and Mike will be assisting in making sure that happens. A stage tech for each instrument will be on-stage waiting for you, to make sure you get up and running with the least amount of confusion. IMPORTANT TIP: When you get on-stage, make sure you check each instrument and vocal mic, even if not used for the 1 st song. Otherwise it might not get picked up right away by the sound engineer (he has to mute unused channels to minimize feedback). Texts: Band leaders -- Please send Mike Stark a number at which John or Mike can text you. One of the most difficult parts of the jam for us is tracking down band members to get back-stage, then onstage, on-time. If we can t find you, we ll text you! We strongly suggest that you have all of your band members info as well, so you can contact any wayward members (it has happened before car trouble, traffic, needing another beer, etc!)

Instruments and back line: Because of the rapid switching of groups all evening, there is a common back line of amps, keyboards, and drums. Details are included at the end of this e-mail, as well as the main contact for each rig. Please be sure to forward this info to your band members, especially guitar and keyboard players, since they have the most flexibility in sound choices. Feel free to contact the folks mentioned below with any questions about specific sounds or patches required. Sound Check: In years past, we have tried to reserve a few moments before the show, between 5 and 6, to allow players to try out the various setups. More often than not, the stage setup finishes late, and we run out of time for this. If this is important to you or your band mates, please contact the person below and see if you can meet up or at least discuss your requirements. If there is time before the show, we will allow folks on stage to get comfortable. Unfortunately we can t guarantee this. Stage layout: Band leaders -- Please organize the stage requirements for your group. We think most of this is already done, but we d like to get down to the nitty-gritty details here. Here s an example: Band name: The Fictitious Dreamers Instrumentation and vocals: Electric guitar (Marshal rig + personal pedal board) + vocal mic Electric guitar (Egnator rig) + vocal mic Acoustic guitar (has no pickup - needs a mic) Acoustic guitar (DI) + vocal mic Bass (Line 6) 3 horns (3 close mics) Keys + vocal mic Drums (We re not planning on using the stage plots of years past; instead, we will consolidate the info above into a master list for the sound company) P.A: The P.A. system will be run by a professional sound engineer at a main, front-of-house board; a dedicated mixing engineer and stage assistant will be at another mixing board alongside the stage, for mixing the monitors. Miscellany: We won t supply music stands or music-reading lights on-stage. Please bring them along if you need them. As always, Bob Douglas will be filming the event, DVD s are available for pre-purchase the night of the show. Encourage any amateur photographers you may know to stop by; the unique lighting situation is a good opportunity for folks to try out camera techniques, as well as generating good quality (and unique) stills for the participants.

INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTIONS: Guitars: NOTE: Pedal boards are ok, but please make sure they are self-contained, well-behaved, and generally stage-ready. We ll have AC power available on-stage. You can either plug in to any of the amp setups, or a direct line input to the P.A. (again, let us know). In the mean-time, make sure levels between patches are matched properly, etc, to make the sound engineer s job easier (and your group s overall sound better). Bob Lituri s rig: (Stage LEFT) Egnater Renegade Two Channel (clean and serious overdrive)tube Head, an Egnater 2 X 12 Tourmaster cab, POD XT live in the effects loop providing reverb and delay (tap on chorus if desired). In front of the Renegade is a TC Electronics Nova-Drive with three levels of grit/grind available (A, B or C). The Nova-Drive can be bypassed as well. Master volume control from the XT Live. Dave Ostrer s rigs: (Both of these amps will be on Stage RIGHT) Marshall JVM205 Guitar à Morpheus De-Tune pedal (tune down in ½ step increments, also can be oct-divide) à Chromatic Tuner àmorley Bad Horsie 2 Wah à MXR Phase à EP Boost à Decimator Noise Gate à Amp input Switchable Effects Loop (Marshall pedal 4) à Volume Pedal à Super Chorus à Boost DLA delay pedal à Effects Loop In Marshall Foot Pedal: Button 1: Clean Button 2: Lead 1 (different amp channel, higher sustain, less distortion, slightly higher mids, Effects loop on) Button 3: Dirty Button 4: Lead 2 (Effects Loop on/off) Lead 2: This is my go-to lead tone. Most if it comes from the DLA adding more drive into the power tubes causing power tube distortion. The chorus is just set for a wide slow sweep to provide depth in leads. Not noticeable as a chorus. For lead 1: Different voiced amp channel. More saturation, less distortion, slightly boosted mids to standout. This is great for singing leads. Very vocal quality.

Fender Blues Jr. with a TS808 and a Dunlop Cry Baby Keyboards: Kurt Heiden / Paul August Main rig: (Note this is the best info Mike has right now. Please contact these guys with questions) Stand 1: Dual (top/bottom stack) bottom: Nord Electro 3, 73 piano, ep s, Hammond / Vox / Farfisa top: Akai Pro MPK49 controller, Apple Mainstage, a wide variety of virtual instruments Stand 2: Nord Stage EX-88, Hammond / Vox/ Farfisa, non-sampling synth

It ll give you all the warm lows and punchy highs you need R&B: Inspired by* the 68 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those late 60s and early 70s clean, fat bass tones. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by a pioneering young bassist, James Jamerson. Rock: This model is inspired by* a classic of the genre, the 74 Ampeg SVT, which has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. Now, all the tone of the head and 300-pound behemoth 8x10 cab is available without having to lookup a chiropractor. Brit: Based on a 68 Marshall Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sounds brought to us by late 60s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who. Grind: As the name would suggest, this is for modern rock lovers Alice in Chains to Mudvayne and Rage Against The Machine. Based on* a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT with a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear and punchy aggression that cuts through the mix and takes your sound to DEFCON 1.

Effects Models: Drums: Compressor: This pro LA-2A -style compressor is ideal for every bass player and particularly useful for the ones who play with their fingers achieve a smooth and consistent signal at any volume. Envelope filter: Based on* a Q-Tron, this is the baddest envelope filter on the planet. This effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes. Octaver: Based on* the EBS OctaBass, this effect produces a single note one octave below the note you re playing to add a powerful new vibe to your sound. Chorus: Based on* the much loved T.C. Electronic Chorus. This is the most transparent, smooth and expressive chorus ever built for bass and using it won t reduce your low end. It s especially beautiful with fretless basses. Synth: Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a 70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this fully adjustable synth delivers incredible tones while tracking every dynamic move you make! (see linked photos and docs) Full DW kit (6-piece, right-handed) with professional cymbals and double bass pedal. The kit will be rented, as has been the case for the last two jams. Contact Bud with any questions, as he is contracting it. Percussion: I m not aware of any special percussion setup needs. If you have any, let us know if you will bring your own! Extras: There will be a DI or two also available for those with acoustic guitars or modeling pedals Horns / Backing Vocals: There will be a handful of stage mics for any horn sections or backing vocalists.
