SETTING Throughout The Nowhere Emporium, we are taken on a journey through many magnificent and unique places. This passage is very interesting and sets the reader up for the magic and mystery to come in the novel. Below you will find some of the early chapters of the novel. You are going to work together to find examples of the following in the passage: Words or phrases that sound magical - underline in red Words or phrases that describe beauty underline in green Words or phrases that suggest mystery underline in blue The shop was a cave of wonders. Everywhere he looked, Daniel saw something he wanted to pick up, to hold, to have as his own. Silver and gold and crystal gleamed and sparkled in the light of a spitting fire. Intricate wooden clocks and mirrors of varying size and splendour covered the walls. Tiny fish flashed like bars of copper in a glass tank. There were porcelain dolls and wooden soldiers; rusted swords; stuffed animals; columns of books as high as the ceiling; jewels that seemed to glow with a silvery light. A stuffed polar bear sat in one corner, eyeing the shop like a watchman. Even particles of dust, caught in a bar of sunlight, seemed to glow like stars The moment he stepped back through the curtain, Daniel knew something magical had happened. The entrance hall full of staircases, once steeped in shadow and silence, had become alive with warmth and light. The soft flicker of torches had intensified, reflecting and dancing on the sparkling walls. Aromas of caramel and spice filled the air. The hallways were dotted with performers and vendors, men and women scattered here and there, at the foot and summit of stairways. Each was dressed in a combination of black and shimmering gold. Some handed out candy floss, or caramel apples, or warm chocolate pies; others performed magic tricks or juggled, or swallowe swords. No two were identical. Now you are going to demonstrate your understanding of the phrases and words you have identified by drawing and labelling a picture of The Nowhere Emporium. This should be as detailed as possible keep referring to the passage to ensure that you do not miss anything.
