What we do SATEL designs, manufactures and markets narrowband long-range radio-modems and turn-key radio communication networks SATEL Oy 11/19/2014

Narrowband radio technology A radio modem transmits data wirelessly to another radio modem in a point-to-point, point-tomultipoint or multipoint-to-multipoint network A narrowband radio modem operates in a maximum 25 khz frequency channel and thus it is a spectrum saving method of data transmission Radio modems are independent of mobile and satellite network operators You are your own operator and in total control of your network No data transfer costs SATEL radio modems support VHF and UHF frequencies Most customers select to use a licensed frequency but in some cases license free is a good solution Extreme reliability in challenging environments Range up to 100 km Typical range varies from couple of hundred meters to even 100 km depending on the application and location specific needs and restrictions SATEL offers radios with different powers (100 mw 35 W) to suit applications that require only 500 meters, as well as those requiring tens of kilometers of link distance The reach of the network can be extended by using radios as repeaters

Radio technologies compared Total control is possible only with a lisenced radio modem network Compare to any third party operator based communication system that are 100% reliable on the operator actions, and other users Compare to wireless LAN where other users can block the lisence free channel In a radio modem network transmission delays are always predictable and under control With serial communication protocols the delay stays under 30 ms With packet based protocols the delay can be controlled by the customer system s settings Compare to any comms network sharing the media with other users. In these cases the delays always depend on what the other users do A radio modem network s payback time can be exactly calculated Practically all costs are emphasized on system purchase and installation Compare to any third party operator based communication system where the operating cost is based on data amount, and the operator s price changes

Smooth data traffic on a narrow band

Fleet Management / AVL Operator wants to track and manage mobile assets Public transport Cargo Other commercial vehicles Fire/ rescue/ law enforcement Of a single asset the required data to monitor can vary Location Operational data Sensor data Remote control

Wireless leads the Way for fire fighters Nerikes Fire Brigade is an organization that handles emergencies in eight municipalities in Örebro County, Sweden. The organization consists of 27 fire stations Covering an area of approximately 150 x 80 kilometers Fleet size is more than one hundred vehicles SATEL Oy 11/19/2014

Wireless leads the Way for fire fighters Individual fire departments vary from small to medium size. Instead of each department managing its own fleet, the county implemented a combined control system for the fleet. Operator at the control center can monitor where each member of the fire engine fleet currently is located within the county area. A single vehicle transmits its location to the control center in every 400meters. System can also operate in real time mode. SATEL Oy 11/19/2014

Wireless leads the Way for fire fighters The AVL system consists of a onboard computer and GPS receiver. The GPS signal is further transmitted through an 80 MHz radio which is also used for speech. The backbone network which covers the county area is constructed with SATEL radio modems. They connect stations up to 57 km apart from each other.

Wireless leads the Way for fire fighters In addition to daily dispatch tasks the system can be used to gather data for statistical reasons. Computing actual driving times in response to alarms. Generate data to use to base decicions.

Wireless leads the Way for fire fighters Why such a private communication network for this system? Reliability Real time communication Capable in long distance links

Fleet management and Traffic Control

Fleet management and Traffic Control SATEL radio modems are used to bring the buses and trams into the same network in both city and nation wide systems Real time passanger information Parking displays Variable message signs Traffic light priority for vehicles SATEL Oy 11/19/2014
