Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlebrings As we near the conclusion of our glimpse into the crew of the USS Galaxy I would like to hope that these brief conversations have enlightened you as to the brave men, women and other gender based species that bravely protect the Federation. Today we meet one of the Doctors who preserve the life and sanity of those brave people we have had the fortune to meet. GOOD MORNING, ENSIGN GERRON, LET S START WITH A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT YOU IF THAT S OKAY? (Subject chuckles) Depends on the information, true? VERY TRUE, SO WHAT S YOUR FULL NAME AND DOES IT MEAN ANYTHING? WHO NAMED YOU, OR DID YOU CHOOSE IT? My name is Gerron Nalas, my family name before my given name of course and my father named me. AND HOW OLD ARE YOU? I am thirty nine years old. SO WHERE WERE YOU BORN? The costal city of Rashoon, which was destroyed during the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, in the Kendra Province on the planet of Bajor. WHAT ARE YOUR PARENTS LIKE? WHAT DO THEY DO? My father was captured and killed during the occupation and my mother is a Vedek. VEDEK, THAT S A SPIRITUAL RANK ON BAJOR IF I RECALL? IS YOUR GRANDMOTHER PART OF THE VEDEK ASSEMBLY THEN? Yes but the last time that we talked she was considering stepping down
DO YOU KNOW WHY? Mostly she feels that the Vedeks are loosing touch with the people that they serve and wants to get back into the trenches. I got my work ethic from her. ANY OTHER FAMILY? Yes, my younger brother in Gerron Jaro who is a captain in the Bajoran Milita as well as my cousins in Major Bastila Shan of the Bajoran Milita, Major Anjohl Soren of the USS Hannibal of Star Fleet Intelligence, Marine Second Lieutenant Anjohl Chani of the USS Beowulf-A, and Anjohl Reon. I also have an older sister if she survived the prison camps in Gerron Iskua and plus my grandmother, Minister Anjohl Talia. A FEW SIBLINGS THEN, DO YOU GET TO SEE ANY OF THEM OCCASIONALLY? More like rarely, but I do talk to Bastila every chance that I get. WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS IT LIKE? I grew up in a costal city much like that of Cardiff in the area of Wales on the planet Earth. It was a good sized city prior to the occupation from what my mother and grandmother tells me. During the latter half of the occupation however, it was destroyed in whole by Cardassian orbital bombardment. But I lived there until I was six, that s when the Cardassians came and captured my father and older sister at which point I went with my mother and younger brother to live in the mountains near Rashoon with my grandmother s resistance cell. I DIDN T KNOW THE CARDASSIANS ORBITALLY BOMBARDED BAJOR, DO YOU KNOW WHY THEY WIPED THE PLACE OUT? The Official reason was that the Bajoran people of Rashoon had access to some kind of weapon that required them to level the city with disruptor fire from orbit. We may never know the truth of the matter. ANY SIGNIFICANT OTHERS? ARE THEY WITH YOU ON SHIP? Well, it s not a relationship per say it s more like a cultural exchange of romantic ideals with Ensign T Rei of security. A CULTURAL EXCHANGE? SOUNDS A LITTLE FORMAL.
T Rei says that we re not at the stage to formally introduce ourselves as dating or as boy and girlfriend yet. So she assures me that this is the most..diplomatic expression of our current dating status. I M ASSUMING WITH A NAME LIKE THAT AND WHAT YOU VE SAID SO FAR SHE S VULCAN? SO I GUESS WHEN IT S LOGICAL IT LL HAPPEN? T Rei is a human that was adopted as a baby by Vulcan parents after her birthparents gave her up for some reason which has affected her ever since before she was a year old. A TERRAN RAISED BY VULCANS, REMIND ME TO HAVE A CHAT WITH HER BEFORE I LEAVE... DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? My cat, Trapper. A TERRAN FELINE? Yes, he s a gray and black short haired dwarf cat. OKAY, MOVING ON, WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO JOIN STARFLEET? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN STARFLEET? I joined star fleet shortly after the end of the occupation, I turned down the rank of an officer in the Bajoran Militia because I saw that I could both learn and do more as a doctor in star fleet than I could on my homeworld. As to how long I ve been in the fleet, I m coming up on fourteen years. Doesn t seem like it s been that long but you know how it is when you re elbows deep in somebody s chest (subject smiles happily) THAT SOUNDS A LITTLE GRUESOME, THOUGH I GUESS YOU MEAN WHILE YOUR FIXING THINGS? OR SOMEBODY I SHOULD SAY. Might sound a little gruesome but it s the truth. If it helps people then I don t mind the gruesome nature of what I do. HANG ON, FOURTEEN YEARS, AND YOU RE STILL AN ENSIGN? ARE YOU AND MR. MCALLISTER TRYING TO COMPETE FOR A RECORD HERE? I was a full lieutenant and a departmental chief aboard the USS Relentless for a few years before something came up and I requested a demotion so that I could get back into the trenches and for another reason.
HOW DID YOU LIKE THE ACADEMY? It was interesting, I was sent to the campus in Tokyo Japan to take part of both the foreign military cross training and the regular classes over there. I also did my senior year as my cadet cruise aboard the starship Beowulf back when it was still a Jupiter class ship. WHERE ELSE HAVE YOU SERVED? The starship Beowulf after the end of my cadet cruise for three years, then the starships Indianapolis, Relentless, Pegasus and now the Galaxy. WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE? The starships Beowulf and Relentless, it was never boring there..much like here on the Galaxy. The Pegasus is still too new a ship if you will. WHAT DO YOU DO CURRENTLY ON SHIP? WHAT MADE YOU PICK THAT SPECIALITY? I m a surgeon and my specialization has been called Meat Ball Surgery by a couple of my superiors over the years which means I make do with less which is something that I learned on Bajor. But for the most part I m a heart specialist.. among other things. (Subject just smiles again) OTHER THINGS? Yes, other things. A doctor must be able to handle any situation that comes up so I ve started to learn everything that I can about xenobiology truth be told. ANY PARTICULAR SPECIES BIOLOGY REALLY INTEREST YOU, OR PERHAPS FRUSTRATE YOU? Klingon biology is both interesting and frustrating at the same time, along with Andorian and Angosian. FIRST CONTACTS MUST BE INTERESTING FOR YOU THEN, WHOLE NEW PHYSIOLOGIES TO FIGURE OUT? Yes but it s also exciting because you never know what you ll find true? (subject smiles) HAVE YOU FOLLOWED ANY OTHER CAREER PATHS IN THE FLEET? WHY DID YOU SWITCH?
Nope, I m a doctor and proud of it. If they offered me the command track, I would have to give it some really serious thought.. like three or four years. ARE YOU HAPPY WHERE YOU ARE? Yes, actually. I really do enjoy the pith and measure of the surgeon, it s quiet refreshing to help a fellow being. ARE YOU AIMING FOR THE BIG CHAIR? WOULD YOU LIKE TO COMMAND A STARSHIP? AND IF YES OR NO, WHY? Yes maybe one day, just to see if I could do it you know? I m told that all starship captain s won t know what they are capable of doing until they are actually sitting in the big chair. IF YOU DID GET THE CHANCE WOULD YOU OPT FOR A MEDICAL SHIP SO YOU COULD STAY CLOSE TO YOUR PROFESSION AS IT WERE, OR WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY FOR AN EXPLORER? An explorer oddly enough because it would enable me to be on the forefront of the new things, meeting new and interesting people..and martinis! SHAKEN OR STIRRED? (subject smirks just a little) It doesn t matter to me as long as it has an olive, because no matter what a martini isn t a martini without an olive. SO HOW LONG HAVE YOU SERVED ON THE GALAXY? Almost a year now roughly. OUTSIDE OF YOUR DUTIES WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING? I enjoy quite a few things like working on my kendo, reading a number of things including books on Xeno-Biology and old mysteries from Earth s past. I also enjoy cooking and working on my zen garden. A ZEN GARDEN, YOU MEAN WITH SAND AND ROCKS AND THE LIKE? Yes, it s quite calming on the soul..especially mine.
ESPECIALLY YOURS? FEELING A LITTLE LESS THAN ZEN LIKE AT THE MOMENT THEN? My life prior to joining the service was full of war and strife from fighting in the Occupation that my soul feels like it's so full of anger still that it helps me to reconnect with an inner peace from a zen garden of all places. WHAT S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF SERVICE ON THE GALAXY? When the Whistler s computer digitized the entire ship and it s company. It felt like I was in an old movie that a friend of mine showed me once called Tron. THEY DIGITIZED THE SHIP, COOL, WHAT WAS THAT LIKE? It was..interesting. It d be have to happen to you for you to understand what happened. Sorry. I HATE STORIES LIKE THAT SO WHAT S YOUR WORST MOMENT ON THE GALAXY? Even though he got them back via our time in the Whistler s computer world, being unable to help Naota keep from losing his legs after he was shot. HE LOST HIS LEGS? Yes, he lost them due to wounds caused by a high powered projectile rifle..but he got better. WELL HE LOOKED IT WHEN I SPOKE TO HIM, WHO WAS USING A PROJECTILE WEAPON THOUGH, I DIDN T THINK ANYONE BUT PRE-WARP CIVILISATIONS USED THEM NOW? It was the first Whistler that we encountered which from what I was told was a scientist left on a moon following the first steps of his people s inter-solar expansion of his people. HOW MANY GALAXY CAPTAINS HAVE YOU SERVED UNDER, AND WHICH WAS YOUR FAVOURITE? AND WHY? I came aboard under T vara and I didn t interact with her much so I really don t have a favourite per say.. DO YOU HAVE ANY UNIQUE OR SPECIAL TALENTS OR ABILITIES YOU D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?
Not many people know this but I am a practicing member of Bajoran faith.. I m also able to perform things such as weddings and funerals. SO YOU RE A RANJEN OR PRYLAR THEN? OR JUST SORT OF LIKE A MONK? It's kind of more leaning towards Ranjen than anything. My mother wanted me to join the priesthood when I was a child but life had other ideas. ANY PET HATES? Doctors who claim to know what they are doing when in truth they really don t and doctors who put their own careers ahead of their patients. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF? In one word, interesting. I know it s not much but it s the best I can do. (subject shrugs) STILL, BEING INTERESTING IS VASTLY PREFEREABLE TO BEING BORING, SO, ANYTHING ELSE YOU D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US? Nothing really. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME NALAS.
