HAND CRAFTED PEWTER
WHAT IS PEWTER? Pewter is an alloy made of tin, antimony, copper, zinc and iron. It dates back to the 11th century and was used for domestic utensils, initially for the very wealthy. Eventually it reached the masses and is still being used today. Pewter is considered to be a soft, yet durable metal which, when moulded, has the ability to be highly detailed. In the modern age pewter is used for a range of items mainly in the promotional incentive sector. We produce high quality, hand crafted items such as belt buckles, coasters, keyrings, plaques, medallions, paper weights and 3d figurines.
THE PROCESS Pewter manufacturing is a hands on process with the products being created using the casting method. We initially set the product in a natural rubber mould. Once we have the mould, the pewter is heated up to 250 degrees Celsius. The mould is then put into a casting machine. This allows the pewter as it is poured into the mould to reach every part of the product. We then allow it to cool for between 5 10 minutes. Once we have cast the object we then have a range of techniques to finish it off. One process is dipping it into nitric acid to strip the metal back which gives the ability to then grind the surface off to create your desired finish.
3D MODELS The advancement of technology has allowed for reductions in master mould costs while considerably improving the quality. This means more complex figurines and models can be made out of pewter. Pewter can be highly detailed when moulded. This is one of the key benefits of using this alloy for these projects.
2D BELT BUCKLE Pewter belt buckles in 2D are available in most shapes. The maximum size is 80mm wide which comes packed in an individual pouch. The finish can be antique or black etched and highlighted. The final weight varies between 90g 120g.
3D BELT BUCKLE Pewter belt buckles in 3D are available in most shapes. The maximum size is 80mm wide which comes packed in an individual pouch. The finish can be antique or black etched and highlighted. The final weight varies between 90g 120g.
MEDALLIONS The medallions are available in 2D or 3D design. They can be purchased with or without the ribbon loop. Any size or shape can be accomodated. There are many types of finishes and packaging available for this product.
CORPORATE BOOMERANG The pewter boomerang 2D design can be created with our cave art (souvenir) designs and can include a corporate logo. SOUVENIR BOOMERANG The pewter souvenir boomerang is available in 6 designs; lizard, turtle, kangaroo, platypus, echidna & fish which reflect cave art designs. It has a plain polished back that can be engraved. Measuring 140mm in length and packaged in a letherette box with a hinged lid.
CUFFLINKS Pewter cufflinks are available in either 2D or 3D design. They can be a custom shape to suit your logo and are packaged in a leatherette box.
LAPEL PIN & BROOCHES Brooches and lapel pins are available in 2D or 3D design. Sizing can be up to 40mm, with most custom shapes possible. The attachment can be a butterfly clip, stickpin, brooch pin or a magnetic backing. Many types of packaging are available, including pouches.
2D KEYRINGS The 2D pewter keyring is available in most shapes. All keyrings can have a swivel ring or dog snap attachment and come packaged in an individual poly bag. Finish can be antique or black etched and highlighted. Pouch packaging options available.
3D KEYRINGS The 3D pewter keyrings are available in most shapes, all keyrings can have a swivel ring or dog snap attachment and come packaged in an individual poly bag. Finish can be antiqued or black etched and highlighted. Pouch packaging options available.
COASTERS Pewter coasters come in most shapes and they can only be of a 2D design. Maximum size is 85mm square or round. The base is backed with black felt and packaged into an individual vinyl pouch (other packaging options are available). Finish can be antique or black etched and highlighted.
LETTER OPENER Pewter handle letter opener has a stainless steel blade. This item can be manufactured either with a fully customised 2D or 3D handle. Many types of packaging are available, including pouches.
PAPERWEIGHT A pewter paper weight is approximately 180g. It can come in any shape to suit a logo or brand. Average size is approx 4.5cm x 10cm. These are packaged in a pouch (other packaging options are available.)
BOOKMARK WITH PEWTER ENDS Bookmarks have a 2D pewter top (approx 25mm) and a 2D pewter base (approx 20mm) with 24cm of gross grain ribbon. Comes packaged into a 2 piece cardboard box.
BOOKMARK Custom bookmarks can be designed in either 2D or 3D and a range of finishes available. The souvenir bookmark is a gumleaf design with gumnuts. It comes packaged individually in a vinyl sleeve.
PLAQUES Plaques made from pewter are mounted on Australian jarrah. Two pieces of pewter are included in the price and the design can be 2D or 3D. Many shapes and sizes are available.
SERVIETTE RINGS Custom serviette rings can be designed in either 2D or 3D with a range of finishes being available. The souvenir serviette ring is a gumleaf design with gumnuts. Singles can be packaged in a pouch or sets of 4 can be packaged in a black gloss box with tissue paper.
SOUVENIR ANIMALS A selection of Australian animals; koala, kangaroo, echidna, platypus, kookaburra, wombat, frilled neck lizard or emu. Average height of kangaroo is 80mm and weight of 85g. Each animal souvenir comes packaged individually in a pouch with a story card that relates to each of the separate animals.
BOTTLE OPENER Pewter bottle openers can be either a 2D or 3D design, they can be a custom shape and there are many different opener attachments available. Various packaging options available.
GOLD PLATING Most pewter products can be gold plated. Coupled with the quality of pewter and the finish of the gold plating, this option elevates the product to the next level of premium.
FINISHES ANTIQUE Pewter is put through a process of being wash thoroughly in an acid bath and then being cleaned with a scotchbrite cloth. This results in a semi-polished face with darkened infills. ANTIQUE AND HIGHLIGHTED TUMBLED 30 Mins Pewter undergoes the same process as antique, however the face is then polished which highlights the raised areas of the product. This results in a polished face with darkened infills. The pewter product is placed into a jewellery tumbler which results in a clean and shiny finish. TUMBLED 5-10 Mins The pewter product is placed into a jewellery tumbler for a shorter amount of time. Which results in a less - shiny, more weathered appearance.the finish can be as dark or as light as you like. COLOUR FILL Colour Fill is an additional finish that can be applied to any of the pewter finishes. This process involves filling any section of the pewter product with a colour epoxy. It is then baked and sealed to ensure the colour is long-lasting.
