Duets & Groovies Earrings P hoto Tutorial by Joanne Zammit www.joannezammit.com Materials (quantities shown for 1 earring) Groovy Tiles SuperDuo Duets SuperDuo Earwires 4ft (1.2m) Fireline 6lb (.12mm) or 8lb (.15mm) or thread to match the contrast colour of the SuperDuo Duets 2 needles size 12 11/0 15/0 15/0 True2 Druk Fringe Faceted Rondelles Drops 3mm 3.4mm 4x3 mm 6x9 mm Page 1

1 On a 4ft (1.2m) length of thread with a needle on each end, pick up 5 Groovy Tile beads. 2 Pass through the first Groovy Tile again to form a circle. 3 Pick up 1 11/0 and pass through the next Repeat until you have an 11/0 between all the Groovy Tiles. 4 Pass through all the Groovy Tiles once more, skipping the 11/0s and making sure that the thread passes behind the 11/0s. Exit the first Groovy Tile to prepare for the next step. 5 Step up through the Groovy Tile, passing both needles through the bead in opposite directions. 6 Pick up 1 plain SuperDuo, 1 11/0 and 1 plain SuperDuo and go through the next 7 Pick up 1 Duet, 1 True2, 1 Duet and 8 Repeat Step 7 twice and Step 6 once to complete the row. colour direction of Duets. 9 Pick up 1 Groovy Tile, passing through the bead in opposite directions with both needles. 10 Pick up 1 11/0 and go through the SuperDuo. Repeat with the other needle. 11 Pick up 1 15/0, 1 Rondelle, 1 15/0 the next SuperDuo. 12 Pick up 1 Groovy Tile and pass through the Pick up 1 Duet, 1 11/0, 1 Duet and 13 14 colours. Repeat Steps 12, 13, 12, 13, 12, 11 the last SuperDuo, the 11/0, the Groovy Tile and the 11/0. With the other needle go through all the beads until both threads exit the 11/0s on either side of the centre Pick up 3 15/0s and 1 11/0 and step up through the Groovy Tile. 15 16 Repeat with the other needle. 17 Pick up 15 15/0s and go through them with the other needle in the opposite direction. 18 With each needle go straight down through the 3 15/0s on either side of the Groovy Tile and through the 11/0, the Groovy Tile and the 11/0. 19 Pull your threads to tighten the beads. This is the loop for the earwire. 20 Go through the SuperDuo, 15/0, Rondelle, 15/0, SuperDuo and Weave up through the 2nd hole of the Groovy Tile to exit the top of this bead. Pick up 1 15/0 and go back down through the Groovy Tile. 21 22 Repeat with the other needle on the opposite side. 23 24 Pick up 1 SuperDuo, 1 15/0, 1 SuperDuo and bead through the next Page 4

25 26 colours. Remember to check the direction of colours of the Duets. 27 Pick up 1 SuperDuo, 1 11/0 and 1 SuperDuo and go through the next 28 Repeat Steps 25, 26 and 24. N.B. Make sure that you pick up an 11/0 in this step. In Step 24 a 15/0 was used. With the other needle pick up 1 Duet and go through the Duet of the previous row and all the other beads until you exit the last Groovy Tile on the opposite side. 29 30 Switch needles again to bead up through the last Duet and Groovy Tile so that the two threads exit the Groovy Tiles on both sides. Go through the 15/0 on top of the Groovy Tile and bead back down through the Groovy Tile and the 31 32 Repeat on the other side. Page 5

33 Go up through the 2nd hole of the 34 Pick up 1 15/0 and bead back down through the 35 Pick up 1 3mm Druk and go through the SuperDuo. Pick up 1 Rondelle and go through the next SuperDuo. Pick up 1 3mm Druk the 36 Pick up 1 Rondelle, 1 Fringe bead, 1 Rondelle and pass through the next go through the SuperDuo. 37 38 Refer to the photo for Duets colour direction. 41 Continue beading through the last Duet on your other thread, locking it into place, and through the other beads until you exit the last Duet of this middle section. 42 With both needles weave down through the Duets. 43 With each needle pick up 1 Rondelle the Duets. 44 Pick up a Drop bead, crossing threads in opposite directions. Weave back through the beads until you exit the Duets and turn up through the 2nd hole of the Duets. 37 38 Continue weaving through the beads to secure threads. Make sure to turn at Duets with the same colour of the thread. Repeat from the start for your second earring. Page 7
