Squing has a tuning fork style wetside which vibrates at its natural frequency when in air. A piezoelectric crystal system is used to create the oscillations and to monitor the actual frequency of oscillation. When the fork is covered by a liquid, this frequency changes and is detected by the electronics which change the output state of Squing. Standard two core cable is used to connect Squing in series with the load. The solid state output stage acts as a simple SPST switch, operated by liquid presence. Squing may also be interfaced directly to a PLC using the PNP transistor output model. IS Squing interfaces directly to proprietary NAMUR isolation amplifiers, resulting in the lowest cost IS system on the market. SPECIAL FEATURES Squing has a status indicating LED which can be seen at all times through a lens in the end cover. The LED will flash approximately once per second when Squing is "off" and will be constantly lit when Squing is "on". The LED gives an indication that Squing is functioning correctly and of course gives a visual indication of the state of the wetside. A 'mode' switch on the circuit board is provided for the user to select either Squing on when dry - the normal condition - or on when wet, as would be selected for low level duties. HIGH LEVEL DUTY The fact that Squing is vibrating normally when dry makes it ideal for use in high level detection applications. Any change in frequency, however caused, will turn Squing off and an alarm may be activated. When included in a fail-safe circuit, Squing provides an extra degree of fail safety improving system integrity. Squing is approved by both PTB and DIBT for overfilling prevention duties.

These models conform to the DIN 19234 (NAMUR) switching levels, drawing <1.2mA on the two wire loop when 'off' and >2.1mA when 'on'. An interface unit, mounted in the safe area, powers and monitors the loop and provides relay or solid state outputs for control purposes. Such devices are proprietary items and are available fully certified EExia IIc from Mobrey or from local stockists. These devices often include a 'fault detection' circuit, which is activated when Squing draws a current outside the acceptable window, such as on open or short circuit conditions in the wiring. I.S. Squing contains circuitry to detect an abnormal rise in operating frequency, such as would be caused by wetside corrosion. When installed as a high level or overfilling alarm in vessels containing corrosive liquids or vapours, this feature causes the I.S. Squing to switch to the alarm state, indicating a wetside corrosion problem.
