Anti-Chattering Retrofit Assembly Please follow through these instructions carefully and thoroughly. If you have questions, feel free to contact a Bend-Tech service representative at our office 651-257-8715 Disconnect Chain and cable from chuck. Do this using a 7/16 wrench for the turnbuckle, a 3/8 wrench and 1/8 hex wrench for the nut and bolt connecting the chain to the trolley.
Remove front chain guide and bracket Do this using a 7/32, 5/16 and 1/8 hex wrench, along with a 3/8 and 5/8 wrench. The tools will have to hold tight to the nuts from inside the rail. Pull the chain around the sprocket and let it hang loose from the 1x1 square tube it is running through. This way, it is out of the way of the sprocket. Remove X-Motor/Gear assembly This is a multiple step process. The specific steps are written below.
Disassemble X-Motor/Gear assembly o Disconnect X Motor cable Disconnect the cable that attaches the X-motor to the control box on the machine. o 4 bolts and nuts holding on the Pillow Block bearings. Use a 9/16 wrench and socket to remove the 4 bolts on the pillow block bearings. Remove the bearings and set them aside. o Chain/chain cover Remove the chain cover using the 1/8 hex wrench for the 4 hex head screws. Remove chain. o Large gear/shaft/inner chain gear Loosen the set screws for the large gear. Remove the large gear.
o Set screws on the shaft/inner chain gear Loosen the 2 set screws from the bearing blocks (make note of which side of the bearing they are on). Slide out the shaft/inner chain gear. *Make sure the new shaft/gear has the same diameter/ tooth count as the old gear.* Motor bracket and gear shield Remove the motor bracket and gear shield by removing the nuts and bolts from the aluminum motor bracket. Reassemble x-motor/shaft/inner gear chain assembly (aside from the machine) First bearing- 1 set screw on flat. Second bearing- 1 set screw on flat, and the other set screw is on the opposite side on the first bearing. Add motor bracket and gear shield Loosely affix the motor bracket and gear shield using the 9/16 nuts and bolts from the aluminum motor bracket. This assembly should be loose and difficult to manage at this stage.
Add large gear Start flush with the end of the shaft, add 1 set screw on the flat of the shaft followed by the other. With X-Motor/Gear assembly semi-loose, put assembly back on machine Maneuver the x-motor/shaft/gear assembly onto the machine and loosely affix it with the 9/16 nuts and bolts. Make sure to place the nuts and bolts on the x-motor bracket along with the one pillow block bearing it attaches to. Install the new plastic chain guide block Affix the plastic chain guide block to the rail of the machine using the nuts and bolts provided. You will have to reach a wrench inside the rail to achieve this. Tighten one bolt on the bearing block closest to the main rail of the machine. Align the inner chain gear with the center of the guide block, then tighten the 4 set screws of the bearing blocks.
Install motor chain and assembly With the chain loosely around both large and small gears, lift up on the x-motor and tighten it into place. Make sure that the chain is taught during this process. Tighten the bearing blocks that are closest to the large gear and make sure the motor gear and large gear are aligned. After tightening, make minor adjustments by moving the large gear or motor gear in or out as needed. Make sure every bolt/screw in the X- Motor/Gear assembly are now tight. Put X-Motor/Gear cover back on. Reconnect motor cable making sure it is away from the gear. Feed the X chain through bottom of new guide block, go around the gear, then feed it back through top of guide block and back to the chuck trolley. Done with X-Motor/Gear/New Guide Block section.
Start with Chuck Trolley Bracket Change Chuck cover Remove the chuck cover by first removing the 4-3/8 nuts : 2 on each side on the bottom plate. Disconnect Y-Home switch (if applicable): This will pertain to 21' Dragon machines with square/rectangle capabilities. Clean debris off everything while cover is off. Remove chuck front bracket There are 2 bolts that will need to be removed using a 7/32 hex wrench. Then, slide the bracket out of the front. Save the bolts for upcoming steps. Remove pressure plate from the other side Remove the 2 bolts (as shown in picture) with a 5/16 hex wrench. Be careful as the bottom plate will now be free and drop away from the rest of the trolley. Save the bolts and pressure plate for re-attachment in upcoming steps.
Carefully flip the chuck trolley up onto the rail Rest the chuck onto the rail (as shown in picture). Inspect and clean all of the bearings now while the trolley is disassembled. Install new bracket Using the 2 7/32 screws taken from old bracket, and 1 screw from the trolley (placed in the back), install the new bracket. *Remove rear cable attachment bolt from new trolley bracket for easier reassembly* Make sure turnbuckle is loose on new trolley bracket Lower trolley back down onto the rail
Reattach pressure plate Do this using the 5/16 hex wrench and corresponding bolts from the previous steps. *You may need to loosen other bolts to get everything to line up* Put chuck cover back on, reattach Y-Home switch(if applicable) Do this by re-attaching the 4 3/8 nuts: 2 on each side. Attach cable, making sure the cable stays on the furthest rear pulley Attach chain to front of new bracket Do this using a needle-nose pliers or equivalent along with a 1/8 hex wrench. Tension Turnbuckle
Tighten 2 tension nuts and bolts on new bracket Make sure all new parts are secured tightly and correctly according to the steps in this assembly manual.
