Let dry and then apply a second coat for solid coverage. Let dry. Have a small piece of bubble wrap handy and paint a section of Warm White onto your palette. Press the bubble wrap (bubbles down) lightly 2 artistsclub.com

into the Warm White paint, (you may want to blot this on a paper towel before pouncing onto your plaque). Proceed to lightly pounce this over the plaque until it is completely covered. I did not want it to be uniform, so I pounced in different directions, letting it overlap in places. Let this dry. Now with a larger drybrush or an older brush, pounce randomly back over the surface with Wasabi Green. Pounce over some areas more than others to give it a varied background. Let this all dry before tracing on the main pattern. Shade around the entire wreath and the sections of holly (at the top and bottom) with Traditional Burnt Umber. This will help the design stand out a bit more and help fill in some of the wreath s background. No need to shade around the birds or the words. PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS PINE CONES When tracing on the pine cones, start by just tracing on the basic outline around the cones. Paint the cones solidly with Soft Black. Once dry, pounce on a bit of Dark Chocolate over the cones. Once this has dried, you can now transfer the details of the cones. Paint those with Milk Chocolate. Once dry, don t forget to erase your transfer lines and remember, these details do not have to be exact! Finely outline all parts of the cones with Black. Finely outline all twigs/stems and berries with Black. You can use your Identi Pen for this. POINSETTIA We will paint the leaves first. Basecoat the leaves with Mistletoe. Once dry, drybrush with Foliage Green. Now paint the larger, outer petals with Rookwood Red. You may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Drybrush those with Tomato Red. Then paint the smaller, inside petals with Tomato Red, you may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Once dry, drybrush those petals with Peony Pink. Fill in the open area in the center with two coats of Rookwood Red. Once dry, draw your berries with your pen and you can use your stylus to dot these with Marigold. Finish the poinsettia by finely outlining all petals and leaves with Black. PINE NEEDLES With your liner brush and some slightly thinned Hauser Dark Green, fill in the tiny pine needles. Thin some Mistletoe and add fine lines of this between each needle. HOLLY Basecoat all holly leaves solidly with Holly Green. Apply an additional coat if needed. Let dry. Drybrush all leaves with an equal mix of Mistletoe and Foliage Green, then highlight with Foliage Green only. Paint the turned up sections of the two holly leaves solidly with Hauser Dark Green. Finely outline all leaves with Black. artistsclub.com 3

OBLONG LEAVES (upper left of the wreath) Basecoat these leaves with Foliage Green. Let dry, then drybrush with Warm White. Outline leaves finely in Black. BERRIES Dot all tiny berries solidly with Rookwood Red. Dot all large berries solidly with Tomato Red. Once the larger berries have dried, dot them again with a tiny dot of Black. LETTERING Lettering is done by painting it solidly with Hauser Dark Green. You may need to apply two coats for solid coverage. Once dry, finely outline the letters in Black. MALE RED CARDINAL Basecoat the male cardinal solidly in Rookwood Red. Apply two coats for solid coverage. Drybrush him with Tomato Red. Highlight his face, wing and belly with Canyon Orange. Shade under his wing and the upper part of his tail feathers with an equal mix of Rookwood Red and Dark Chocolate. Basecoat his beak with Canyon Orange (two coats). Once dry, highlight the top of his beak with an equal mix of Canyon Orange and Marigold. His mask is Black. Outline his eye in Black and fill this in with Milk Chocolate. His pupil is dotted Black. I thinned some Warm White to add a tiny accent line and dot. Finely outline all of him in Black. FEMALE CARDINAL Basecoat her with an equal mix of Canyon Orange and Honey Brown. Apply two coats for solid coverage. Once dry, drybrush her with an equal mix of Canyon Orange and Marigold. Highlight her face, wing and belly with Marigold (only). Shade around the left side of her head, her wing and upper tail with Tomato Red. Her beak is painted solidly with an equal mix of Canyon Orange and Marigold (two coats). Once dry, highlight her beak with just Marigold. Her mask is Black. Outline her eye in Black and fill this in with Milk Chocolate. Her pupil is dotted Black. I thinned some Warm White to add a tiny accent line and dot. Finely outline all of her in Black. FINISHING Once we are finished painting, we will need to seal our project. I simply spray sealed mine with Americana s Matte Spray Finisher. Once this is dry, you can add wire or ribbon to this plaque if you wish to hang it. I also wanted to add a bit of extra shine to this plaque as well and for this I used DecoArt s Dura Clear Gloss Varnish and applied this to ALL berries and also to both of the cardinal s eyes and beaks. Once this has dried, our merry little plaque will be ready to be displayed! Merry Christmas and Thank You! Sharon B 4 artistsclub.com
