Marc J. Gordon President & CEO Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Marc J. Gordon, CHA, FMP, joined the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association in December, 1997, as president & CEO. Under his leadership the Association, which has represented the lodging industry in Illinois since 1916, has grown by more than 50% in annual revenues, financial reserves, number of employees and number of programs offered to members. The Association is comprised of approximately 525 hotel members representing over 79,000 hotel rooms and 160 allied member companies. Mr. Gordon manages a staff of ten in offices in Chicago and Springfield who work to promote, protect, educate, and serve the Association s members and constituencies. Mr. Gordon, who has more than 40 years of management experience in the hospitality industry, previously served as senior director for the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association. Mr. Gordon joined the sales and marketing department of the Educational Foundation in November 1989, where he served as the department s senior director for five years. In 1994, he was promoted to senior director of operations and financial management. During Mr. Gordon s tenure, The Educational Foundation s revenue grew from $2 million to more than $16 million. Prior to joining The Educational Foundation, Mr. Gordon achieved significant revenue growth for the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association, where he served as director of sales and marketing from 1984 to 1989. He also taught full-time at the School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management at Michigan State University from 1981 to 1984. Mr. Gordon continued teaching part-time from 1984 to 1989. Prior to joining the faculty of Michigan State University, Mr. Gordon was employed by Holiday Inns, Inc. for five years. In 1976, he opened Holiday Inn/Chicago City Centre as front office manager and was promoted to rooms division manager/assistant general manager in 1978. In 1979, Mr. Gordon was promoted to general manager of the Holiday Inn-Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. In 1981, he became the Midwest regional director of training for more than 250 Holiday Inns. Mr. Gordon began his hotel management career in 1973 with Westin Hotels at the Continental Plaza Hotel in Chicago. Mr. Gordon worked in several positions at the hotel, including food and beverage controller and assistant front office manager. Mr. Gordon received his M.B.A. degree from Michigan State University in 1973 with an emphasis in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management and his B.S. Degree in Marketing from the University of Colorado in 1972.
Jesse Hathaway is the managing editor of the Budget & Tax News, a publication of The Heartland Institute. Before joining Heartland, Hathaway worked for Media Trackers, a conservative non-profit news organization active in 5 states. His investigatory research has appeared in local, state, and national publications including The Daily Caller, Drudge Report, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Hathaway received his bachelor's degree from Ohio University, where he majored in English. In 2010, he was one of several featured presenters at the Conservative Political Action Conference, giving an address on the subject of government transparency and accountability.
Stephen R. Miller is an associate professor of law at the University of Idaho College of Law s Boise campus. Prof. Miller s articles have been published by or are forthcoming from Cambridge University Press, the Harvard Environmental Law Review, and the Harvard Journal on Legislation, among other leading law reviews and professional journals. Prof. Miller s courses include Property, Administrative Law, Environmental Law, State & Local Government Law, and a seminar in land use planning. Prof. Miller received his undergraduate degree from Brown University, a master s degree in city and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
