PP8X2 English 3 5/11/01 1:03 PM Page 2 Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the new Saitek PX4000 gamepad. The Saitek PX4000 gives you the latest Twin Analog technology on a gamepad for the Sony PlayStation2 /PSone /PlayStation and combines it with Double Shock/Double Shock 2 to produce a superior product for the discerning gamer. Ergonomically designed with a superbly sculptured Throttle Wheel and Double Shock/Double Shock 2, the Saitek PX4000 offers a fusion of the latest technology with top-of-the range styling. SAFETY FIRST Getting Started Securely insert the gamepad connector into the connector port of your Sony PlayStation2 /PSone /PlayStation console. Switch on your console and insert your chosen game and follow the on-screen instructions. EXTRA FEATURES AVAILABLE WITH THE PX4000 Switching Between Digital and Analog Modes The Saitek PX4000 comes with two Analog Sticks for increased precision, performance and playing power. Most of the push buttons, including the D-Pad, x, o,,, L1, L2, R1 and R2 are also proportional to the pressure applied on these buttons and allow precision controls and flexibility in PlayStation 2 (on supported games only). Simply select the Analog Mode for complete control in driving and flying games or any game where accuracy in movement is crucial. Switch between Digital and Analog Modes by pressing the Analog Mode Button. The Analog LED will light up when the gamepad is in Analog Mode. In some cases, the game itself will make this change automatically, overriding the Analog/Digital Mode. For more details, consult the game s user manual. The default power-up mode for the gamepad is Digital Mode. 2

The Analog Sticks work in Digital Mode, emulating the D-Pad and buttons and if pressed, work as the L1 and R1 buttons. Using the PX4000 in Analog Mode In Analog Mode, as well as the standard Digital features, the dual Analog Sticks of the Saitek PX4000 become active. Used with the Throttle Wheel, it makes the PX4000 ideal for use with those games that require a high level of control. To use the Analog features, look for games that display the Analog Controller Compatible label on the game s packaging. Lockable Axis on Analog Sticks To improve your gaming, Saitek have added a unique feature to the PX4000 a lockable axis for the Analog Sticks. This is ideal for those situations when the axes need to be separately controlled, eg, for steering or for accelerator/brake function. Simply press down the button to the side of the stick and rotate the dial to the direction lock you require - either "Up/Down" or "Right/Left" depending on the type of game you are playing. This will especially improve your control in driving and first-person games. 3
PP8X2 English 3 5/11/01 1:03 PM Page 4 Analog Sticks Work In All Modes Unlike most other gamepads, where the Analog Sticks will not function in Digital Mode, the Analog Sticks of the Saitek PX4000 do work in Digital Mode - emulating the D-Pad and the 4 Buttons. The benefits of this are that your new gamepad will work in your old Digital games and that it will also give you the choice of using either the Analog Sticks or D-Pad 4 Buttons suiting your personal gaming style exactly. Double Shock/Double Shock 2 Double Shock/Double Shock 2 are the names we give to Saitek s superior, ultra-responsive Shock Technology. Games for the Sony PlayStation 2 /PSone /PlayStation displaying the Dual Shock /Dual Shock 2 logos will activate the twin Shock motors integrated into the Saitek PX4000 gamepad. These motors are situated both left and right on the pad and operate in varying degrees of strength, from a slight shock to full feedback. Throttle Wheel The Saitek PX4000 comes with a self-centering Throttle Wheel for improved play - especially in driving and flying games. It is situated in the optimum position for precision game play allowing the user to control the wheel with thumb or finger. The power-up default setting for the Throttle Wheel is ON. Turbo Functions Each of the buttons can be independently selected to have the Turbo function. Press and hold down the Turbo key and the Turbo LED will be lighted steadily. Then, press the button(s) you prefer with turbo function once, (press it a second time will turn off turbo on that button). When you are done, release the Turbo key to exit and the Turbo LED will be off. Pressing any of the programmed keys will now have the stream-firing effect. The Turbo LED will flash to indicate the action. 4
