July 03, 2018 Core sector growth dips to 10-month low of 3.6% in May Growth of eight infrastructure industries dropped to a 10-month low of 3.6 percent in May due to a decline in production of crude oil and natural gas. The eight sectors, which also include coal, refinery products, fertilisers, steel and cement, had expanded by 3.9 percent in May 2017, according to the data released by the commerce and industry ministry today. This is the lowest growth rate since July 2017 when infrastructure industries had expanded by 2.9 percent. The growth rate in April was 4.6 percent. India s seafood exports cross $7 billion Striking a new high in export performance, India s shipment of 13,77,244 MT of seafood earned US$ 7.08 billion during the financial year 2017-18, with frozen shrimp and frozen fish continuing to be the flagship export items, as compared to figures of 11,34,948 MT and 5.77 billion dollars, respectively in the preceding fiscal, registering a growth of 21.35%. In rupee terms, the exports of marine products were pegged at Rs 45,106.89 crore as against Rs 37,870.90 crore in FY 2016-17, notching a healthy growth of 19.11%. Retail inflation for industrial workers remains flat at 3.96 percent in May Retail inflation for industrial workers remained flat at 3.96 percent in May compared to 3.97 percent in April this year, a Labour Ministry statement said. According to the statement, the food inflation based on CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers) stood at 1.66 percent in May against 1.33 percent in the previous month and (-) 1.63 percent during May 2017.
