CyberDominance.com Author Guide Welcome aboard the Cyber Dominance team! CyberDominance.com is a perfect place for you to write articles related to any cyber security topic or topics related to the concept of dominance or cyber dominance! This document will serve as a reference for you as you get started. It will also guide you each time you write. Please follow the pre-publish checklist here to maintain the general standards and give readers a polished experience. The Goal The purpose of CyberDominance.com is explained in our About page, but in a nutshell its about being a place for teaching, discussing, or just throwing ideas out there. Opinions are OK, too, as long as you make it clear to the reader that you are offering an opinion (you should also tag your post as an opinion, but more on that later). My Job My job is to provide you with: A reliable forum for your content Display your content in consistent way to readers Ensure your content is accessible from within and without CyberDominance.com Pay for all of the overhead, maintenance, etc Troubleshoot problems with the site Occasionally back up data Provide you with a professional about the author section at the bottom of each article you write Provide basic social media branded for CyberDominance Provide guidelines and minimal requirements for authors to generate traffic and visibility for all authors Your Job Write! The more content you write, the more your content will be viewed. Keep your profile information up to date, including having a decent headshot. No avatars here! Follow the guidelines of this style guide Don t do anything on CyberDominance.com that would diminish the quality of your work or the work of others on the site. Cordial disagreements are encouraged, however. Promote your work (and any other work you d like) from CyberDominance via social media or other venues. The more traffic you bring in, the more traffic we all bring in.

Your Benefits Since you are here, you probably understand the benefits of being an Author, but here they are anyway: No-cost hosting of your work No-cost social media exposure under the CyberDominance brand You control your work. You retain all copyrights. You can remove your material and edit it if you want. I will help you with styling you focus on content and let me help you present it in a well formatted way. Your work is easily linked and sharable You can post any of your work even work published elsewhere relating or loosely related to the goals of CyberDominance indicated above. My benefits What do I get out of this relationship? Perhaps like you, I don t have a lot of time to write. Your content helps me keep the fire of CyberDominance going. It gives the site fresh ideas. I benefit from those sharing or interested in your worldview. Increased traffic might mean that I can earn enough revenue to make this a cost-neutral endeavor, or perhaps even make a little bit of beer money. Your ideas can inspire my ideas sometimes I just need to argue with somebody. Questions and Contacting me If you have questions about writing or anything related to using the site, email me at Jacob.davis@cyberdominance.com. CyberDominance Email Address If you want a @cyberdominance.com email address, we will get your first article written and then I can get you an email address and help you set it up. This can help protect you from spam and keep your work related to the site in one place. Accessing the CyberDominance Dashboard Using the username and login provided, go to https://www.cyberdominance.com/wp-login.php and log in. When you log in, you will see the Dashboard. On this dashboard you will see some interesting information, and you will also see any notes I have posted.

At the top, you will see Screen Options. At some point, you can open that up and get rid of anything you don t want to see. But be sure to keep the notes that s a handy way for me to give you guidance each time you log in. Your menu may look a little bit different from this. That is ok. Before you write: Author Profile Setup Before you publish, you must have your Author profile set up. At the bottom of all of your articles, your profile will display. It is important that this section is well formed it adds legitimacy to your article, helps your readers connect with you, and is a big way that you can direct people to your other projects, your social media, etc. Set up your profile When logged in and at the dashboard, on the left, select Profile. You will see this screen:

These things near the top are all just for you, but scroll down and ensure the following information is up to date:

Notice how I put a lot of my other social and websites on there. I cheated, as some of them are just websites but I indicated they were some platform. That doesn t matter too much, just remember that it will use the icon of that social network as the button for that link. The picture of you is of particular importance choose something that looks great! Don t use any avatars it should really be a picture of you. If you think you can t do this, reach out to me and we can discuss.

Style Guide Following this style guide will accomplish several things: Your work will be easier to find by search engines Your work will be easier to read It will be easier for readers to find other articles of interest on CyberDominance I will direct you to the necessary buttons and things, so you won t have to guess Writing Most of the writing guides aren t so much about how you write or the voice you use, but mostly on how to structure your content. Getting Started: Interface CyberDominance uses WordPress. Your articles are called Posts in wordpress. If you ever have any problems, you can usually google, how do I in WordPress and you will probably find the answer. If you select Posts from the menu on the left, you will see this list of all of your posts: To create a new post, select Add New at the top. The new post interface looks something like this:

There are only 3 boxes you need to write in: 1. Below Add New Post the text box is for your title. 2. The largest box is for the body of your article. 3. The Excerpt box is for 2-4 sentences that describes the main point of your article. Title The title is one of only two places where I may edit (i.e. work with you) the words. Use 4-14 words if you can Use title capitalization, i.e. capitalize every word except for articles like a, to, the, etc Tell the reader why they should read it. The title should be like a newspaper headline. Options in the Body There are a few types of formatting in the body that you should use.

paragraph this is the default style. Use this for content that doesn t apply to one of the other styles below. To change style, select the text and use the drop down. Headings o Only two heading styles are used: Heading 1 and Heading 2. Ignore the rest. o Headings should serve as an outline for your article. If the reader only read the headlines they would get the gist of what you are saying o Heading 1 is the major heading. Heading 2 is the minor heading. o Try to use at least 2-3 headings at a minimum Bold o When you have key concepts, bold the words. This helps the reader anchor on your major point, and helps search engines know what your article is mainly about. o Don t over bold. Blockquote o The button will wrap the selected text into a blockquote. Think of blockquotes as a way to call out certain text from your article, or to give a quick sidebar about something. Other items that work like they do in normal word processors and are available to you: o Italics o Ordered lists o Unordered lists Body Structure Besides guiding you with structure, and possibly restyling, I won t mess with any content you write in the body. This part is 100% yours. Use the following structure for each article: 1. At the very beginning, write 2-7 sentences in paragraph styling. You can italicize if you want. This is your teaser to get the reader to read more. You will use this group of words later in the Excerpt too. 2. Major heading. Start of the article with a Heading 1. Here you can tell them about a problem your article will address. a. You can also give an overall synopsis of the article. Some readers like for the first paragraph here to explain the gist of the entire article, punchlines and all. Tell them your conclusion up front, enticing them to read how you arrived at that conclusion. (optional) 3. Paragraphs a. Keep them short enough to allow the reader to skim. b. First sentence should contain the point of the paragraph, such that if they only read the first sentences of each paragraph they would understand your point. c. Try to keep only 2-6 sentences per paragraph to help break up the content visually for the reader. 4. Conclusion. You don t have to label your final Heading 1 Conclusion but do something to wrap it up again for your reader. Tell them what you just told them.

a. This is also an opportunity to invite discussion. Your articles can have comments, so give your readers something to talk about. (optional) Excerpt The excerpt is 2-4 sentences and is used in a few places. The Excerpt is the other part of your work where I may have to come in and edit. Given to search engines. When someone sees your article in search results the excerpt is probably what the search engine will show them. Used elsewhere on CyberDominance.com. This excerpt is used in other places. It assumes it will only be 2-4 sentences long. If you don t use the excerpt properly, it may not display summaries of your article correctly. When using social media, the excerpt is often used to show previews of the article. Saving There is an autosave feature, but you should always use the save button on the right when you make edits. Let me know you are finished writing For your first few articles, I will have you tell me when you are ready to publish and then I will publish for you. This is so I can double check styling and perform some other advanced things that you won t have to worry about. But as you get more experience and master the Advanced things in the next section, I can give you permissions to publish without waiting for me.

Writing Checklist To help you remember the basics, ensure that before you are done drafting you complete these items. Check your Author Profile. Make sure it is still up to date, especially your picture and your Biographical Info Create a new post 4-14 word title that will draw readers. Start body with 2-4 sentences in paragraph styling that tease the reader After the teaser, start with a Heading 1 to open up your article Use paragraph styling for normal text Keep only about 2-6 sentences per paragraph. First sentence of each paragraph is the summary for the whole paragraph. (optional) Use a blockquote or two to pull out a specific point or make a side comment. (optional) Add 1 or more relevant images (see advanced section) Craft the excerpt, either by copying your teaser or crafting from scratch Excerpt is only 2-4 sentences long Spell check title, body, and excerpt Save! Let me know that you are ready for final review and publishing, Jacob.davis@cyberdominance.com After publishing o Ensure everything is displaying properly o Share post on social media o Periodically check back and reply to comments

Advanced That is the basics! You can do some of these things if you want to be more advanced and have more control: Pictures You should ALWAYS have 1-2 images! But I won t make you do that part since I am somewhat adept at finding copyright-free images that will work well on the site. But if you are OK with pictures, I encourage you to add them! Finding an Image Options are: 1. You have your own picture, and you are OK with that picture being used 2. You can find a copyright-free images. I use https://www.pexels.com. Adding image to your post Simply click the Add Media button and you can select a photo that has already been used (discouraged unless the photo is very specific to what you are talking about): Here you will see the Media browser where you can upload the image or select one: When you upload an image, you will get a form on the right side:

You should fill out a human-readable title, something descriptive (search engines use this), and you are highly encouraged to provide a caption, which will automatically appear when this image is in a post, and gives a nice experience to the reader.
