Roger Walburn The Steelmaking Processes Metallurgist, Manager - Customer & Product Development, NLMK-USA Roger graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1995, majoring in Materials Science Engineering. He started his career as a co-op student at Allegheny Technologies in 1993 working in various capacities throughout the Vandergrift plant. Topics Covered: Liquid Steelmaking BOF EAF Casting Rolling Coating Finished Products This eventually led to a position as Process Metallurgist in the Brackenridge plant upon graduation. In 1999, he was promoted to Senior Product Metallurgist for the entire Titanium Sheet & Strip product division during its start-up as a product line. In 2004, Roger left ATI to work for NLMK-Pennsylvania (formerly Duferco Farrell Corporation), leading the processing engineering efforts in their finishing mill. This eventually led to the position of Manager of Applications and Routings where he was responsible for developing and maintaining the product routings that ensure all customer product and purchase order requirements are met, and in the most cost effective manner possible. He is also the principle lead metallurgist for all technical inquiries for the family of NLMK-USA companies that operate in the USA, which includes NLMK-Pennsylvania, Sharon Coating and NLMK - Indiana. Roger was recently promoted to the newly created position of Manager - Customer & Product Development. In this role, Roger will work closely with customers and inside/outside Sales on new product development, product training, order integrity, and improving commercial services. A primary focus of this new position will be clarifying customer material requirements. Roger will take an active role in commercial strategic growth opportunities within various target markets and will work very close with the quality and operations departments.
