May 18, 2018 Indian economy projected to grow 7.6% in 2018-19: UN India's economy is projected to grow 7.6 percent in fiscal year 2018-19, remaining the fastest growing economy in the world, as robust private consumption and benefits from past reforms help the country's GDP gain momentum but sustained recovery in private investment remains a crucial challenge, according to a UN report. The UN World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) as of mid-2018, said GDP growth in India is expected to climb to 7.5 and 7.6 percent in fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively. This is a substantial recovery from the 6.7 percent growth India registered in fiscal year 2017. National Conference of Fisheries Ministers of Coastal states held in Delhi During the last decade, India has attained first position with around 14% average annual growth in the export of fish & fishery products. Fish production in India has also grown by 27% in 2014-18 as compared to 2010-14. This was stated by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Radha Mohan Singh while addressing the Fisheries Ministers of Coastal states and Union Territories. Shri Singh also stated that the Government has made a budget provision of Rs 7,522.48 crore for the establishment of Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FAIDF) which has the potential to benefit 40 lakh marine and inland fishermen, especially women, self-help groups, weaker sections by making available modern infrastructure facilities and increased value of the produce. He said like farmers, fishermen will also get the benefit of 'Kisan Credit Card'. EU-India workshop held on countering online radicalization in Delhi The European Union (EU) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) organised a two-day workshop (May 16-17) in which Indian and European experts discussed various aspects of online radicalisation. In addition to the NIA, representatives from several state police forces - Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Manipur and also central agencies took part in the workshop. The European participants represented Europol (the EU Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation) as well as law enforcement agencies from Belgium, France and Spain. Director General of National Investigation Agency: Yogesh Chander Modi Gina Haspel confirmed as CIA's first female director The US Senate has approved the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) first female director, despite her role in the spy agency's post-9/11 interrogation programme. Gina Haspel's confirmation in a 54-45 vote follows a partisan fight among senators about the CIA's Bush-era use of techniques such as waterboarding. Ms. Haspel, a CIA veteran, once oversaw a so-called black site in Thailand after the 11 September 2001 attacks.
