OPENING & CONTEXT SETTING The event s key note speakers will focus on setting a broad context on energy and mobility in South Africa and will highlight their experience and perspectives on where this will be heading in the future. The SANEA Youth Team will share SANEA s perspective on energy and mobility based on a desktop study of local and international developments and trends. Jean Eudes Moncomble, Secretary General of the French Committee of the World Energy Council (SANEA s equivalent in France), will deliver a presentation on the French Government s study on mobility which has been done as input to the 7th European Energy Forum on Clean Energy for Sustainable Transport. IN DEPTH DISCUSSIONS Two moderated panel discussions, led by an experienced moderator with industry and subject matter experts as panellists, will be hosted to address key aspects of the main event themes. Evolution How is internal combustion engine giving rise to the application of new energy forms to drive mobility? What are the rapid advancements that are challenging the conventional norms and approaches to transportation? Transition How is South Africa following global trends and embracing the sustainability benefits from e-mobility? How can transparency be created in the value chain that currently supports an internal combustion driven mobility environment? What is needed to make the transition in South Africa? DELEGATE PARTICIPATION AND INPUTS Two delegate participant workshops will take place during the afternoon session, and the general theme will centre around Enablement. The workshops are designed to solicit views from broader industry players and ensure a wide range of tabled issues as contributions to two important and value adding studies for the industry. Delegates will be allowed to contribute their views / ideas and experiences into key aspects that will underpin the transition. The workshops will be held as break-out sessions and at the end of the session, the teams will give feedback to the plenary prior to conclusion of the day s proceedings. A report of conference proceedings will be compiled by PwC and shared with the attendees.
DELEGATE PARTICIPATION AND INPUTS CONTINUED Workshop 1: Contribution to a Macro Economic Study of the Impact of Electric Vehicles in South Africa In partnership with Change Pathways (Anthony Dane), this workshop will be used to facilitate inputs into a Macro Economic Study that is being undertaken by Change Pathways on behalf of SANEDI. The study will focus on the Macro Economic Impact of Electric Vehicles in South Africa which is currently being scoped, and its key inputs will be considered for deliberation and influence from the delegates who choose to participate in this workshop. Workshop 2: Transition Scenarios, Risks and Opportunities The aim of this workshop is to determine potential transition scenarios from an internal combustion engine driven mobility value chain to an alternative energy driven mobility value chain. It will be structured around transition inputs scenarios, risk, and opportunities associated with the transition. Feedback from this workshop will form the basis for a deep dive into the energy and mobility landscape as part of the SANEA Energy Risk Report 2019.
