Step 9: Connect the socket at the end of the PN 05 Pot Cable ssembly to the mating socket of the illuminator, as shown in the pictures on this page. fter partially inserting the socket to the mating socket of the illuminator with your finger, use other mechanical tools such as driver or tweezer to firmly insert the socket all the way by pushing back edge of the socket as indicated with the red arrow in the bottom left photo. The socket cannot be fully engaged by pushing on the wire attached as the wires would just collapse. If you want to pull the socket out, pull the wire straight out by firmly gripping the black heat shrink tubing. efore insertion Partially Inserted Copyright 07 Nanodyne Measurement Systems. mm Socket (not provided) ushing Nut STEP 0: Replace the existing potentiometer with the new potentiometer (pot) provided by Nanodyne. Remove the nut and washer from the pot provided by Nanodyne. Leave the bushing in place. Install the new pot as shown in photos and using an mm socket to tighten the nut to secure the pot. The bushing should center the pot, but there is very little space between the wheel and the microscope casting due to poor design of this casting as shown in photo, so proper fit of the knob for the pot should be checked now. If it does not spin freely, loosen the nut and adjust the pot position so that it does. Do not over-tighten the nut, but be sure it is tight enough so the pot does not come loose later.
