LINEAR MOTORS DUO COMBO DUO THREE HEAD DUO is a microdrilling/routing machine designed to offer many advantages thanks to its special structure. The machine, equipped with Pluritec CNC (PCB Control), can process different panel sizes according to the configured spindle selection (i.e. a very large panel can be drilled/routed by using one spindle and parking the other spindle on its extremity). DUO is a compact two head machine that can be configured as follows: 1 or 2 full range high speed drilling spindles (160 or 180 or 200 krpm synchronous) 1 or 2 microdrilling spindles (250 krpm) 1 microdrilling spindle (250 krpm) and 1 routing spindle (80 or 125 krpm or 60 krpm synchronous) 1 or 2 routing spindles (80 or 125 krpm or 60 krpm synchronous) 3 drilling/routing splindes with a working area of 460x760 mm (18.1 x 30 ) A very large working area is available with 2 heads (635 X 762 mm - 25 x 30 ) and with 1 head (1050 x 762 mm - 41.34 x 30 ). Optionally, other interesting working areas are possible with 1 head like 915 x 915 mm (36.02 x 36.02 ). The single spindle machine has a working area of 762 x 1270 mm (30 x 50 ) The tool change system has 210 collar or collarless tools per spindle for the basic configuration and up to 1400 tools with chain system as an option. The tools are provided on Pluritec strips located on cassettes. The automation is available by means of two trolleys located on the rear side of machine. Each trolley has 18 shelves for the automatic loading/unloading of the stacks. 3
Basement A cast structure machine basement assures high stability to the X\Y axes movement on linear motors. The Y axis movement is based on the Gantry system and on high accurate linear guides. Linear motors The X1, X2 and Y axes are driven by linear motors and the positioning ensured by linear scales with 1 micron (0.0393 mils) resolution. High precision linear guides mounted on X,Y and Z axes, allow fast and accurate axes movements. Laser interferometer for inspection and calibration During machine assembly, accurate laser evaluations of parallelism, flatness, squareness on linear guides and mechanical systems are performed. This is a guarantee for high machine accuracy since its early construction. At the end of manufacturing process a further laser calibration is executed in order to verify both, accuracy and machine specifications. 4
Spindle / Z-axis The Z axis of machine is equipped with a synchronous linear motor with excellent ratio of power to weight. Wear and maintenance free, no moving cables, symmetrical design and high efficiency. Thanks to the motor efficiency and the accuracy in driving the spindle the machine is more productive and more accurate when drilling with depth control system. DRILLING AND DRILLING/ROUTING SPINDLE Various configurations are available: 1 or 2 full range high speed drilling spindles (160 or 180 or 200 krpm synchronous) 1 or 2 microdrilling spindles (250 krpm) 1 microdrilling spindle (250 krpm) and 1 routing spindle (80 or 125 krpm or 60 krpm synchronous) 1 or 2 routing spindles (80 or 125 krpm or 60 krpm synchronous) Tool magazine 154 collar or collarless tools per spindle are standard available on 11 Pluritec strips and placed on a cassette. Optionally 1300 tools is possible by using the chain system. 5
Tool change One or two grippers (option) provides the handling of tool change operations between the magazine and the spindle. The doble gripper system is independently moving and allows a much faster tool change cycle. A chain system providing 1300 tools (on Pluritec strips) is located on the right side of machine. Replacement of the strips (tools) is executed without stopping the machine so granting high and uninterrupted drilling autonomy. Laser station The automation level of DUO LZ, as well as the quality of drilling/routing, requires in the basic machine configuration a laser device for the measurement of drill bit height, diameter and run-out during every tool change operation. Contact Drilling DUO LZ is equipped with the Contact Drilling system that allows both, broken bit detection and controlled depth drilling. BROKEN BIT DETECTION Thanks to the contact drilling system, any breakage/chipping of small diameter drill bits can be detected in real time. DEPTH CONTROL DRILLING It brilliantly answers the needed depth accuracy on multilayer panels. 6
Automatic bush exchange DUO LZ can be equipped with the special swinging pressure foot providing automatic bush exchange. This system allows high accuracy to be obtained in microdrilling due to the small bush hole diameter which creates the ideal vacuum flow for chip evacuation and a better pressure (force) on the area of the panel to be drilled. Stack locking The working table of each head is equipped with a reference V-block and a slot with sliding bar for the secure and reliable locking of the stacks. With the loading/unloading system the stacks are loaded by means of the Y-axis movements and the 2 centerline pins of the stacks. Automation Each head is equipped with a loading/unloading system. It consists of a trolley that provides 18 shelves handling stacks of different sizes and part-programs. A special function, loading/unloading no stop, allows the machine to work continuously by removing and replacing the stacks from the trolley. 7

Very useful for automatic alignment of individual stacks after loading on the table. This provides the ultimate in perfect drilling of multilayer stacks eliminating any tooling plate error. Moreover, the vision system allows the processing of particular applications, such as the drilling of holes related to the position of specified targets (i.e. BGA products) and the routing of patterns related to the position of specified references. 8
Bar code DUO LZ can be equipped with a bar code reader for the automatic reading (and down-loading) of the programs. This ensures high flexibility of the various/ different jobs to be processed. The bar code reader can be integrated with the Job list management to obtain a fully automated system. Applications Mapping The mapping function is normally used when is required to have the drilling or routing depth referred to the surface where the panel to process is placed. It is used, for example, in presence of panels with cavity where a microchip must be located; in this case, in fact, it is important to have the same thickness from the bottom side to the processed side (drilled or routed) of the panel. The mapping function enables to detect the surface of the working table or a desired surface where the panel to process have to be placed. The machine is equipped with the Contact drilling system that measures the needed surface with very high accuracy. Control unit DUO LZ is equipped with PCB Control, the Pluritec Industries CNC. It has been developed starting from Pluritec Industries experience in PCB manufacturing. Its multiprocessing function can manages up to 32 axes. Easy to use The flexibility and simplicity of use is warranted by a User Friendly interface that reduces and simplifies the time to production process. PCB Control ensures the total compatibility with the major common programming languages Sieb&Meyer and Excellon. On a joblist both of them can be processed without stopping the machine for software loading. 9
