Data policy defined by ESA Member States: ESA EO Data Policy to stimulate a balanced development of Science, Public Utility and Commercial Applications, consistent with the mission objectives to maximize the beneficial use of data from ESA EO satellites. Project purpose Category 1 use Research, Applications, Development ALL ESA data available Distribution responsible esa using ESA facilities/stations Data costs Costs of reproduction Free on Internet Cat.1 use Terms & Conditions Category 2 use Commercial use Only (A)SAR data available also in Cat.2 competing Distributing Entities using ESA facilities and/or agreements with non-esa stations Data costs defined by competing Distributing Entities
Category 1 use: Terms & Conditions Pre-condition for access to Category-1 data. Main points: to use the data provided for Category 1 use only within the project team (i.e. PI and co-pis) and only for the purpose described in the project proposal i.e. no original data redistribution outside the Cat.1 use project team to widely publish the project results in scientific publications or presentations with data citation: [mission or instrument] Data provided by European Space Agency (to facilitate web retrieval of publications, and subsequent ESA reporting on mission/instrument achievements) Each PI shall sign the Category 1 use Terms & Conditions (http://eopi.esa.int/files/terms )
Types of Category-1 Access Products systematically available on the Internet Fast Registration, any time, free of charge (Internet access) Products available on specific request Full Proposal, any time, reproduction cost Products offered within an Announcement of Opportunity Full Proposal fitting set objectives, time restrictions, normally free of charge
Products available via a Registration Complete list available at: http://eopi.esa.int/files/regproducts The list currently includes: MERIS RR and AATSR worldwide MERIS FR data over Europe and North America All ASAR Medium resolution products Altimeter data Atmospheric sensors data Access to TPM collections (e.g. Landsat or MODIS in European coverage, Proba ) Depending on product type, access can be provided to the last weeks of acquisitions or to the overall archives

Reporting PIs shall submit an annual progress report, giving the current project status and informing about results and achievements. Submission of progress reports is done either directly to ESA (EOPI Portal) or via presentations to ESA workshops or conferences (duly recorded in the proceedings) or via delivery to ESA of a copy of publication(s) in scientific reviews. Reporting can be used to request additional data not originally foreseen in the accepted proposal or to request an increase in the amount of agreed data (in both cases a justification for the new request shall be provided).
Results nature GRL Published results may be advertised on the EO PI or ESA portal

Browsing & Ordering data EOLI is the Earthnet OnLine Interactive catalogue. It is the ESA client for the Earth Observation (EO) multi-mission catalogue and ordering services. The EOLI Stand Alone (SA) Client provides access to the online ESA catalogues of EO products, allowing the visualisation of quick-looks and online ordering. http://earth.esa.int/eoli/eoli.html
Accessing online data [1] Rolling archives: The multi-mission On-line Archive (Rolling Archive) consists of servers available at the three ESA acquisition stations of Kiruna, ESRIN and Matera. Access is given to ERS, ENVISAT and TPM data Envisat Web File Server (EWFS): It allows users to download a subset of ASAR, MERIS or AATSR data available online covering only a selected geographic region
Accessing online data [2] MERCI web interface, gives access to global MERIS Reduced Resolution data and Envisat/ERS (A)ATSR archived data 25 TBytes of MERIS RR data
EO GRID Processing-on-Demand (G-POD) Alternative way to access EO data: Promote the development of new algorithms requiring large data and computing resources: bring the user s algorithms to the data Build network of competences, promote e-collaboration and sharing of tools, easier transition from science algorithms to new user products Ongoing Cat-1, on average 10 projects selected per year More at http://gpod.eo.esa.int on-line data archives user triggers and controls from the G-POD website its own processor running on eogrid computers products
