Our History In the 1970s, a growing Asian Pacific Islander community began to develop in Santa Clara County. Law students from Santa Clara University noticed that a whole range of legal needs were not being addressed. Issues ranged from housing, evictions, employment, criminal defense, public benefits, domestic violence and more were troubling the API community. The founders thus decided to form the Santa Clara County Asian Law Alliance to begin addressing these programs and to bring legal aid to the growing API community.
Our Milestones During the past 40 years, ALA has helped over 220,000 people fight for their rights to affordable housing, justice in the immigration process, and access to basic human rights. We commemorated this milestone during our 40th Anniversary dinner.
