Our Impact 2,200 API and low-income individuals obtained info, legal consultation, or free legal representation services. 4,000 API and low-income individuals received information on their legal rights and responsibilities through 145-150 presentations, workshops, and clinics. 3 API community orgs received technical assistance (logistics, how to register, etc.); existing networks continued to receive facilitation services; and new networks were initiated as needed to monitor critical public issues in the API and low-income communities.

Our History In the 1970s, a growing Asian Pacific Islander community began to develop in Santa Clara County. Law students from Santa Clara University noticed that a whole range of legal needs were not being addressed. Issues ranged from housing, evictions, employment, criminal defense, public benefits, domestic violence and more were troubling the API community. The founders thus decided to form the Santa Clara County Asian Law Alliance to begin addressing these programs and to bring legal aid to the growing API community.

Our Milestones During the past 40 years, ALA has helped over 220,000 people fight for their rights to affordable housing, justice in the immigration process, and access to basic human rights. We commemorated this milestone during our 40th Anniversary dinner.
