PRESIDENT S LETTER Our ND summers are short and glorious. I hope you re soaking up and wringing out every opportunity for fun and adventure. I m sure, like me, many of you allow other priorities to take precedence over quilting during the summer - like picnics, pools, and patio parties! Let s also take advantage of the extra hours of sunlight to make progress on finishing our UFO s. The Quiltfest quilt show is just around the corner. Join me in using the goal date of October 1 to have your quilt show entries completed. Yikes, that s only 57 days from our regular August meeting. Better adjust my priorities and put those quilting projects on the FRONT burner. Hope to see you all in August at both Capital A fair and our guild workshop & meeting. Capital Quilters Minutes for regular meeting: June 2, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 9:30 AM by President Shelly Doyle. Minutes for May meeting approved as published in the Newsletter. There was no Treasurer s Report Committee Reports: Education: Today s workshop was cancelled because of Kari s illness. The participants will either do the bag on their own or contact Kari for assistance. The Education Committee met on May 22 nd. The Committee decided that the Education year should go from August to June because there is so little time for the new Vice President elected in May to plan the June workshop. They also planned workshops for August Stephanie will teach the Candy Pineapple September 8 th -with P-tag will tentatively be a Bedazzled Name Tag. October assorted techniques for doing Flying Geese Membership: Please pay your annual dues of $20 for 2018/19 Business year. Quiltfest: Patty Steinert reported the brochure will be ready for the August meeting. Marlene Sapa showed samples of several of the classes being offered. If you are attending a meeting where a group of quilters will be, contact Marlene to take the samples and display them. Charity Project: Jean Wolf reported that 50 pillowcases have been contributed this past month and will be delivered to the Ruth Meiers House and the Ronald McDonald House. The next organization to receive pillowcases will be Charles Hall Youth Services. We continue to assemble kits from donated fabric but are in need of solid black or white (width of fabric) pieces for 2 inch trim or 10 inch cuff pieces. QOV quilts continue to come in, we currently have 20 with several still in the process of being finished. Thank you so much for your awesome work. Facebook: Mary Ann Crow told us if we are Facebook users to be sure and share Capital Quilters ND and the Quiltfest site. It is a great way for the info the get out! If you have anything for our site, email it to Mary Ann. National Quilting Day: The date for 2019 has been reserved at the Heritage Center. Capital A fair: Quiltfest will order a banner for this event. Patty has all her volunteers to man the booth! New Business: There was discussion about a new logo for Capital Quilters and to have a banner made using the new logo for events. After much discussion a Logo Committee was begun. Current members are Jenny Yearous and Rosemary Hertz. If you would be interested in serving on this committee please call President Shelly. Last year when we changed the meeting time, it was decided to try it for a year and then revisit the time. BOD will work on the survey and email it to the members 2

President Shelly encouraged the wearing of name tags and will reinstate fine for not wearing one! Gloria Schlosser approached the Education Committee to ask that group to take over the administering of the UFO Challenge. They agreed and Sandi Bates will head up that effort. End of Year Committee reports should be sent to either Shelly Doyle or Evelyn Buchfink and they will be published in the Newsletter. Edie Scherr brought to our attention the Row by Row Experience is happening at 13 shops in ND this year and many shops around the country. The theme is Music. Need to go to the shop to receive your free pattern and most shops have kits available for purchase. For more info go to rowbyrowexperience.com. DON T FORGET YOUR NAME TAG! A friendly reminder to guild members to wear their name tags at our meetings. The guild warmly welcomes our newest members. Wearing name tags will help them get to know us, and help us get to know them. This is one case in which you DO want to share your PII, personally identifiable information! Thanks for your cooperation. NEEDED: VOLUNTEERS FOR SPECIAL COMMITTEE NEW LOGO Capital Quilters guild is looking to refresh and update its logo. Discussion at the June meeting lead to the formation of a Special Committee to pursue the idea of developing a new logo. Jenny Yearous and Rosemary Hertz agreed to head-up the Special Committee. The guild is asking for additional volunteers to serve on the Logo Committee. This will be a fun project and nice easy way to get more active in our guild. Please contact our President, Michele Doyle, GUILD SURVEY COMING SOON: FOLLOW-UP ON MEETING TIME In June 2017, the guild members voted to change our regular meeting time to 9:30 AM with the workshop to immediately follow. This change was made with the understanding that we would try it for a year and reassess. The time has come to revisit the change in meeting time. The survey and meeting time will be an agenda item for the August meeting so please plan to attend if you want to participate in discussion. The guild s Board of Directors will be working on a new survey of the member s preference. Please watch for the survey to come to you in your email box before the September meeting. Here were the choices for meeting times presented in 2017: 1. Meeting begins at 9:30 AM with workshop to immediately follow. (Guild voted to accept this option.) 2. Workshop begins at 9:30 AM with meeting to follow at 12:00 PM noon. 3. Workshop begins at 9:30 AM with a break for lunch. Meeting at 1:00 PM. 3
