ECM-L MPLIFIER GENERL DESCRIPION he ECM-L amplifier is a dual channel amplifier for use in any system with a DC power supply. It is designed to be used with Continental Hydraulics' single or double solenoid proportional valves: ED03M, EP03M, ED05M and ED0M. he ECM-L board is designed for applications where the spool feedback option is not required. Coil temperature changes will not affect output current to the valve because it is a current control device. lso, it is current limited and protected against short circuits. Coil return wires may be separate or combined. pre-set dither improves valve characteristics over the full range of pulse width modulation () output. his holds power loss to a minimum. his unit features a built-in DC to DC converter to provide reference voltages from DC input power ranging from to 30 volts. limited amount of regulated DC is available to power sensors and command controls. he ECM-L amplifier is packaged in a x.3-inch (0 x 0 mm) printed circuit board. ll connections are made through a terminal plug at one end. he boards come in two forms. Code "P" mounts with stand-offs on a panel. ll adjustments, operating lights and test points are located on the primary board. his board may also be mounted in a single ERO card cage. Code "E" mounts into a single ERO card cage. ll adjustments, operating lights and test points are located on a face panel so that the board does not require removal from the cage for set-up adjustments. Do not use Radio ransmitters or similar devices that emit radio frequency (RF) signals within three (3) feet of an exposed amplifier board. If outer loop feedback is used, consult the feedback device supplier for possible RF interference. It is designed to be used with Continental Hydraulics' ED03M, EP03M, ED05M and ED0M single or double solenoid proportional valves: he valves may or may not include a 3-wire. Options are: outer loop position, velocity and pressure feedback. It is a current control device with pulse width modulation (): this means power loss is held to a minimum, even when output voltage varies. Coil temperature changes will not affect output current to the valve because it is a current control device. lso, it is current limited and protected against short circuits. Coil return wires may be separate or combined. pre-set dither improves valve characteristics over the full range of output. Command signals may be ± VDC bipolar, 0 to 5 VDC unipolar, or -0 ma current. For maximum performance, the amplifier is designed to work with an optional position feedback sensor. When the ground connection is broken, both outputs are disabled immediately and the yellow DISLE LED will light. When the ground connection is returned, the selected output returns to the commanded value. Safety or panic stop designs should always include redundant shut-off controls. he spool position feedback uses a -0 ma signal. Loss of feedback is sensed if the signal goes below ma or above 5 ma. his will disable outputs and light the red FL LED. he ECM amplifier is packaged in a by.3-inch (0 by 0 mm) printed circuit board. ll connections are made via a terminal strip at one end. he circuit board may be mounted with standoffs on a panel.
