PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS Pine and Holly Place the pattern on the tray, Trace just the lines for the holly and pine boughs with graphite. I found it easier to paint these first and then paint the gingerbread man on top. The pine branches are painted with a 10/0 liner using Burnt Umber. The pine needles are first painted with Hauser Dark Green. Once these are dry go back and add more needles with Citron Green. The holly leaves are based with Hauser Light Green. Shade them with Hauser Dark Green and highlight with Citron Green. The holly berries are painted using the end of a large brush dipped in Country Red. Allow these to dry thoroughly, then shade with Antique Maroon and highlight with Neons Fiery Red. Add tiny Warm White dots on the highlighted areas to add a sparkle. Gingerbread Man Trace the gingerbread man and base him with Honey Brown. It may take several coats, you want a good, opaque coverage. Shade around the edges of the gingerbread man with a side load of Burnt Sienna. Drybrush a highlight to the center of his face, body, arms and legs with Camel using the size 4 blending brush. Trace the details on the Gingerbread man. The nose is Country Red. Shade at the bottom with Antique Maroon, highlight the top with Neons Fiery Red and finally add a small Warm White comma stroke highlight at the top. Eyes, eyebrows and mouth are Lamp Black. Add tiny Warm White highlight dots to the eyes at about the 1:00 position. Add rosy cheeks with Coral Blush. I like to dry brush these to achieve a nice soft look. Use the size 2 blending brush for this small area. The icing squiggles on his head, arms and legs are painted with Warm White. The buttons on his body are Lamp Black, highlighted with a tiny side load of Warm White on the right side. The bow at his neck is Country Red. Shade next to the knot and where the strings overlap with Antique Maroon. Highlight the bow with a 10/0 liner and strokes of Neons Fiery Red. Letter 'G' Trace the letter G and the words on the surface. The G is based with Country Red. The words is for are painted with Hauser Dark Green. Ginger is painted with a size 2 round using Country Red. The G is shaded at the bottom with Antique Maroon. Highlight the top with Neons Fiery Red. Add Warm White dots in descending size to add some interest to the letter. With thinned Lamp Black and a 10/0 liner, outline the letter. FINISHING Shade around the inside edge of the frame with Honey Brown. Then varnish the tray with Dura Clear Matte Varnish. 4 artistsclub.com
