Instructions for Completing a PORT Module AMERICAN BOARD OF OPHTHALMOLOGY Updated February 2014
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS For an optimal test-taking experience, please ensure the device you are using to access the PORTs meets the following minimum requirements: On a PC: Windows XP, 7, or 8 operating system with IE 6-11; Firefox 5-26; Chrome 15-32; or Opera 10-18 On a Mac: Mac OS X operating system with Safari 5-7 Tablet: ipad ios 3-7 or Android 4
GETTING STARTED Locate the table on your PORT homepage screen which lists: the name of the module you selected, the date which you selected it, the dates of beginning and completion (when applicable), and the current status of your module:
BEGINNING A MODULE Click Start this Exam in the Status column of your preferred module to begin. Before you click: Note that you have a maximum of 30 days to complete a module. You may not begin the next module until you have completed the module in progress. And you must score a minimum of 80% correct in order to receive credit for completion.
USING THE PORT PLATFORM Once you click Start this Exam, you will see Question 1 of 50. In addition to the question and its four possible answers, you will notice a series of blue buttons at the top of your screen
ERASE If you click an answer by mistake, or you wish to change your answer, you can use the Erase button to start the question over. The Erase button will not erase your entire exam only the answer to the question you are currently viewing.
NAVIGATE The row of buttons on the far left will help you move through the 50 questions in your PORT module. You are not required to complete the questions in order. Once you have selected your answer, click Next Question to move on.
GOTO Once you have viewed some of the questions in your module, you may choose to jump to specific questions. Type the question number you want and click Goto.
MARK The PORT is an open-book test, so you are encouraged to research the answers to questions which you may be unsure about. For that reason, you can mark specific questions for review by clicking the Mark button. Mark< and Mark> will allow you to move backwards or forwards through only the questions you have marked.
SUBMIT Once you have answered all of the questions, click Submit. If you try to submit before you ve answered all 50 questions, you will be shown a screen that lists the question numbers you have missed. You must go back and complete those questions before you can submit your exam.
ANSWERING QUESTIONS Click the circle next to your preferred answer for each question. Then click Next Question to continue. When you have answered 50 questions, click Submit.
SUBMITTING YOUR EXAM FOR SCORING Once you have clicked Submit, you must confirm that choice. Clicking the green button will submit your exam for scoring and display your Exam Results page. Clicking the red button will stop your submission and give you another opportunity to review and/or edit your responses.
VIEWING YOUR RESULTS Once you have clicked Yes, you will be able to review your results. Your Exam Results page will display your percentage score and indicate whether you have passed the module.
VIEWING YOUR RESULTS Below your score, you will see any questions you may have answered incorrectly. While the ABO does not provide you with the correct answer, we do provide a reference to the section in our MOC Content Outline where the topic in the question was covered.
RETURNING TO YOUR MAIN PAGE Once you have finished reviewing your results, click Back to PORT Homepage to review your status and/or begin another module.
CHECKING YOUR PROGRESS When you return to your PORT homepage, your PORT table will automatically update to reflect completion of your module. You can choose to review your results again, or begin your next module.
