Purpose Statement ABC Level 2 Certificate in Footwear and Leather (NVQ) (500/6572/5) ABC Awards is at the forefront of developments within the fashion and textiles sector and has a suite of vocational qualifications from Level 1 to Level 4 which reflect the skills that employers and providers are looking. Aspects that are covered range from pattern and grading technology, tailoring, garment technology, pattern production and so much more. By undertaking the ABC Level 2 Certificate in Footwear and Leather you have the opportunity to gain an understanding and appreciation of the skills required to work in this exciting and fast paced industry, along with the knowledge and experience to excel. ABC Awards is the leading Awarding Organisation for fashion and textiles work-based vocational qualifications. Overview The ABC Level 2 Certificate in Footwear and Leather is a work-based qualification designed for adults and young people (16+) who wish to enhance their performance at work and career progression, giving them currency to enter further qualifications. The flexible nature of this qualification enables you to select a specific pathway e.g. footwear production; handcraft/bespoke/orthopaedic footwear production; footwear repair and associated services; saddlery; leathergoods production and leather production. The qualification offers you, the learner the opportunity to demonstrate competence of industrial performance, knowledge and understanding at Level 2 for a specific role. Aspects covered by this qualification include: carrying out leather cutting operations, machinery footwear/ leathergoods and examining footwear, right through to producing duplicate keys and servicing / repairing watches. Who is this qualification for? The ABC Level 2 Certificate in Footwear and Leather has been designed in collaboration with Creative Skillset, the sector skills council for the creative industries and through them in collaboration with representatives of the industry. It is based on the National Occupational Standards developed by the industry and for the industry, to support their training needs.

The qualification is unique as it is the only competence qualification for footwear and leather nationally regulated, at level 2 and is a component within the current Skillset Intermediate Apprenticeship Fashion and Textiles. Taking the qualification within the current Apprenticeship framework is for you if you are new to the sector as it forms the foundation of work-based learning for any future career developments within the industry. It is also suitable to be taken outside of the Apprenticeship framework, as a stand-alone qualification if you are a mature, semi-experienced employee. By completing this qualification, it will ensure recognition of your industrial experience and competency skills at Level 2. You will cover aspects of health, safety and security at work along with maintaining the quality of production working with textiles, leather and materials. The additional choice of topics from one pathway of the optional units will support you to develop skills and confirm competence in your particular job role/career choice, for example: Footwear and Leather (unendorsed pathway) maintaining work area, manufacture material to add value in leather production (chemical processing), carrying out leather cutting operations, carrying out repairs on footwear/leather goods / saddlery, machine sewing

components to produce leather goods, carrying out: upper making, machining, lasting and associated operations, carrying out component moulding operations, carry out multiple shoe room operations, servicing and repairing watches, producing duplicate keys, carrying out engraving to meet customer requirements. Footwear production - maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products, carrying out leather cutting operations, carrying out multiple operations in footwear manufacture, carrying out multiple operations in orthopaedic / bespoke footwear manufacture, and carrying out lasting, making and associated operations for orthopaedic / bespoke footwear. Handcraft/Bespoke/Orthopaedic Footwear Production maintaining the work area, carrying out leather cutting operations, carrying out multiple operations in: footwear, orthopaedic and bespoke footwear manufacture, carrying out lasting, making and associated operations and finishing for orthopaedic / bespoke footwear, leather goods or saddlery. Footwear Repair and Associated Services maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products, carry out repairs on footwear / leather goods / saddlery, producing duplicate keys, servicing and repairing keys, carrying out engraving to meet customer requirements and selling footwear / leather goods / saddlery care and ancillary products. Saddlery - maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products, manufacturing material to add value in leather production (chemical processing), processing customer orders for footwear/ leather goods /saddlery, carrying out leather cutting operations, repairs and preparing components for footwear / leather goods and saddlery, skive and/or splitting material for leather goods, carrying out upper making / leather goods / saddlery closing/ machining and association operations. Leather goods production - maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products, carrying out leather cutting operations, preparing components for footwear / leather goods / saddlery, skive and/or split material for footwear/ leather goods / saddlery manufacture, machine form and embellish components of footwear / leather goods, machine sew components to produce leather goods / saddlery, processing customers orders for footwear / leather goods / saddlery. Leather production - maintaining the work area for manufacturing sewn products, manufacturing material to add value in leather production (chemical processing) and selling footwear / leather goods / saddlery care and ancillary products. This 18 credit qualification has one 3 credit and one 5 credit mandatory unit and the remaining units are 3-8 credits depending upon unit selection in relevant pathway. The qualification is 100% vocational learning that relates to the competences needed to work in the footwear and leather sector, at Level 2. The delivery and assessment of the qualification will take place in your workplace. You will produce a portfolio of evidence for example; observations, witness statements, photographs and products produced.
