DeRosa DRM-516 (5-PIECE 16 ) Drum Kit ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Along with reading this guide, we also recommend that you watch the DeRosa 516 Drum Kit Assembly video on the Austin Bazaar Product FAQ page (http://www.austinbazaar.com/productfaqs-s/262.htm) in its entirety before you begin. No additional tools are required for assembly. GETTING STARTED Begin by clearing out a large space to work in. You may want to set up the kit In the same space where your child will be playing it. If the area has tile or hardwood floors, we suggest that you set up the kit on a small area rug. Check the components of your set against the following list of included items: NOTE: There may be a few extra items (washers, tension rods) included with the kit. You only need the aforementioned quantities (in parentheses) to assemble the kit.

1) BASS DRUM ASSEMBLY Gather the Bass Drum Shell, the 2 largest Heads, 2 largest Rims, 2 bass drum Spurs, 8 metal Claws, 8 of the longest Tension Rods, and 8 plastic Washers. Align the shell, head, and rim as shown below: To assure that the show side of the bass drum (facing away from the drummer) has the logo on it, align as shown in the photo to the right. Logo on the head will be centered in line with the cymbal mount on the top of the shell. The logo on the shell itself will be on the side closest to the drummer. Assemble one of the long Tension Rods by threading on a Washer and then a Claw. Line up this assembly with one of the lug mounts on the shell and screw the rod into the lugs, allowing the Claw to rest on the Rim edge. You can use the included Drum Key, but do not over-tighten. Repeat using the other 3 Claws, Washers, and Rods. For an ideal tone when playing, all of the rods will be exerting the same amount of tension on the head. You can check by tapping around the edge of the drum and loosening or tightening the rods on each side so that they sound the same all over. The higher the pitch in a certain area, the tighter the closest tension rods are. Turn over the drum and affix the other bass drum head and rim the same way, using 4 more tension rods, washers, and claws. Loosen up the wing nut on one of the shell's leg mounts and insert a bass drum spur. Tighten the wing nut and repeat with the other spur on the other mount. The spurs should be equally extended so the drum is slightly elevated off the floor about 1/2 - and secured tightly with the wing nuts so the drum remains stable while it is being played.

2) ASSEMBLE & ATTACH THE TOM TOMS You will be assembling the two smaller Tom Toms in the same fashion as the bass drum, except instead of using Claws you will thread the Rods and Washers through holes on the Rims. There should be four Rods on each side of each drum, and you will use the shortest Rods included with the Kit. Match the Heads and Rims with the appropriate-sized Shells. Once you have assembled the Toms, sit the bass drum upright and slide the Tom Tom Arm into the Mount on top of the drum. Using the drum key, tighten the wing nut loosely until you have decided exactly where the Tom Tom Arm will rest (this height will depend on the size of the drummer and how easy it is for him or her to access the Toms). You can also adjust the height by moving the Collar up and down on the Tom Tom Arm. Attach the Toms to the Tom Arm by sliding their rails on to the Tom Arm as shown. 3. MOUNT THE CYMBAL ARM Loosen the wing nut on the Cymbal Arm and remove the metal Bolt, Washer, and Cymbal Felt on the top end of the Arm. Place the Cymbal on top of the remaining felt and re-attach the Metal Washer, Felt, and Bolt. Tighten bolt and place the now-assembled Cymbal Arm into the Cymbal mount on top of the bass drum. Tighten the wing nut on the Cymbal Mount loosely until you have decided exactly where the Cymbal Arm should rest. This should be adjusted according to the size of your drummer, and Cymbal should be angled toward the drummer. 4. PUT THE BASS PEDAL INTO PLACE Loosen the wing nut underneath the foot pedal so you can clamp the Bass Pedal to the Bass Drum Rim. Line up the mallet of the Pedal so that it hits the Bass Drum Head squarely. Once you have it in place, tighten the wing nut on the clamp.

5. ASSEMBLE THE FLOOR TOM Using the remaining 2 heads, 2 rims, 8 medium-sized Tension Rods, and 8 washers, assemble the Floor Tom in the same fashion as the other toms. Now place the Floor Tom upside down and locate the 3 Floor Tom Legs. Insert them into the leg mounts with the rubber end up, tightening them into place by using the wing nuts on the mounts. Pro drummers will adjust the Floor Tom Legs to create a slight 3% angle facing toward the drummer for a faster response and better attack. 6. SET UP THE SNARE DRUM Make sure the wing nuts on the Snare Stand are loose. Slowly open the stand by pulling out the legs, which will open in a tripod fashion. The 3 Legs should be level on the floor and not over extended. Tighten the wing nut securely on the tripod legs, making sure the stand is stable. Raise the neck of the stand to the approximate height for your drummer and tighten the wing nut securely once you have the desired height. Open the Arms on the Stand and rest the Snare Drum (which should arrive pre-assembled in your kit) on the stand. You can adjust the Snare Drum sound by using the knob on the side of the Snare Drum. As with the Toms, do not over tighten. 7. SET UP THE SEAT Find the upholstered Seat Top and the Seat Stand. Make sure the wing nuts on the Stand are loose and slowly pull the tripod legs until the stand is in a stable position. Securely tighten the wing nut. You can adjust the seat height by using the pre-drilled holes in the neck of the stand. Choose the hole that will put your seat at the desired height, then place the screw through the pre-drilled hole. Securely tighten with the wing nut. Place the Seat Top onto the neck of the Stand and tighten securely.

8. SET UP HI HAT STAND & HI HAT CYMBALS Locate the Hi Hat Stand and 2 Matching Hi Hat Cymbals. Loosen the wing nut that controls the tripod legs and push them down so the stand is able to rest comfortable on the floor and the black Pedal Base is touching the floor. Tighten the wing nut by hand securely. Loosen and remove the Lug Bolt and Nut that is on the black Pedal Base. Place the Lug Bolt through the black Pedal Base and through the Pedal Flange. Tighten the lug bolt securely but do not over tighten. Remove the Hi Hat Clutch (plus additional felt washer and nut) from the Stand and put those items off to the side for final assembly of the Hi Hat. Loosen the wing nut on top of the Hi Hat Stand. Extend the Hi Hat Drive Shaft upward and place the Hi Hat Stem through the Hi Hat Drive Shaft. Tighten the wing nut on the top of the Hi Hat Stand securely by hand. Tighten the collar on the Hi Hat Stem securely. Place the metal washer on to the plastic Hi Hat Cap and then the Felt Washer on top of the metal Washer. Place one Hi Hat Cymbal with the concave side up on the remaining Felt Washer. Loosen and remove the round Thumb Nut from the Hi Hat Clutch assembly which you set aside earlier. Remove 1 metal Washer and one Felt Washer. Place the other Hi Hat Cymbal concave side down through the Clutch bolt and put the Felt Washer and then the metal Washer over the bolt. Tighten securely using the round Thumb Nut. Put the Clutch Assembly onto the Hi Hat Shaft Drive approximately ¾ of an inch above the lower Hi Hat Cymbal. Tighten the wing nut on the top of the Hi Hat Clutch securely. Do not over tighten. 9. FINAL ADJUSTMENTS You have now assembled all of the parts included in the drum kit and can make any final adjustments that best suit the drummer. Have the drummer sit on the Seat and make sure their feet are on the ground and that they are able to reach the Bass Pedal. Make sure they can also reach the Tom Toms, Cymbal, Hi Hat Cymbal and Floor Tom. Once you have arranged the drums around them as shown and adjusted to their liking, they are ready to rock out!
