DAY 4 If you play an instrument, you know that it takes a LOT of practice. You can t just sit down at a piano and play your favorite pop song. You have to start by learning the notes and chords. That takes a while! You can t pick up a guitar and play an awesome riff right away. You have to learn where to put your fingers on the frets and you have to let your fingertips harden, because when you re first starting to play, it hurts! You have to put in the time. You have to commit to sticking with it, even when you don t feel like it. It s the same with faith. If you want to grow, you ve got to practice hearing what God says and put it into practice. You make time in your schedule to practice an instrument, or to practice for your sport. Reading God s word is even more important. So make a plan. Ask for help. You can do it! LIVE FOR GOD DAY 1 READ MATTHEW 7:24-27 When it rains, doesn t it feel good to be in a nice, dry home? How about when it s stormy? You don t really think about it how strong your house is when it s sunny and things are normal. But when the thunder and lightning hit, all of a sudden it seems really important that your house or apartment is built strong and secure! Jesus said that we can live like the wise man who built his house on a rock... if we what? (Look at verse 24.) these words and put them into. In other words, we need commitment. We need to make a plan and put into practice. It s not enough just to know what God wants us to do. We have to follow through and do it. That s how your house (your life) can be strong and secure! HEAR FROM GOD WEEK 1 - PRETEEN

DAY 2 REMEMBER OUR MEMORY VERSE? HAVE YOU LEARNED IT YET? CHECK IT OUT: 1 TIMOTHY 4:8. Being godly has value in every way. Think about that. If you want to build your relationship with God, a great way to start is by hearing what He has to say. That means reading your Bible. Maybe you like to read straight through, a chapter at a time. Or maybe you read devotionals like this one, that focus on different verses and help you understand what they mean. The important thing and let s be honest, the hard thing is to remember to do it. That s something you can pray about. Talk to God, and ask Him to help you find time to read the Bible consistently. It could be in the morning before school, in the afternoon after you finish your homework, or maybe right before bed. Ask Him to give you the strength and commitment to read His word for yourself! DAY 3 YOUR SMALL GROUP AT CHURCH IS GREAT FOR SO MANY THINGS. THEY RE YOUR CIRCLE. THEY RE YOUR PEOPLE. THEY VE GOT YOUR BACK, NO MATTER WHAT! And guess what? They can help you stay committed to reading God s word. Of course you spend time at church opening up the Bible together and talking about what it means. But you can also help motivate each other to read and apply what God says. Let s say you wanted to set a goal with a friend in your group to read straight through the whole book of John. Two chapters a week. That s 21 chapters, so it would take you 11 weeks to do it almost three months. Do you think you d be more likely to read your two chapters each week if you knew your friend was doing it too? You bet! You could check in with other on Sundays and talk about what you ve learned. When you finish, do you think you d be glad you did it? Let your friends cheer you on and vice versa as you practice hearing and doing what God says. PRAY TO GOD TALK ABOUT GOD

DAY 4 Praying is so simple: talking to God. But it can be hard to remember to do it... unless you make a plan. Some people have a habit of praying right before they eat a meal. Or maybe you pray before you climb into bed for the night. Maybe you pray to God right before you have a big math test. Just remember that you don t have to get in a rut. You can talk to God anytime, anywhere, about anything! Pray by yourself. Pray with other people. The important thing is that you take time to pray. Your plan is your plan. No one else is going to have the same one that you do. But when you get to the end of the day, you want to be sure that you ve talked to Him about what s going on in your life. You ll never regret it! DAY 1 READ LUKE 11:1-4 As you read, circle the words that stand out to you. Jesus was giving His friends (and us!) a model of how to pray. That doesn t mean we have to say these exact words. You can say anything that s on your heart. But in this prayer, Jesus showed us what s most important as we talk to our Heavenly Father. HERE ARE FOUR THINGS JESUS MODELED FOR US: 1. T ell God how great He is ( may your name be honored ) 2. Ask for the things that God wants to come true ( may your kingdom come ) 3. A sk for what you need ( give us each day our daily bread ) 4. A sk for forgiveness, protection, and a forgiving heart Most of us are pretty good about asking for #3. But don t miss the chance to try #1, 2, and 4. See how that might change the way you relate to God. Just like any kind of discipline, prayer takes practice and commitment! LIVE FOR GOD HEAR FROM GOD WEEK 2 - PRETEEN

DAY 2 DAY 3 WHEN YOU RE SCARED... PRAY. THERE S PRETTY MUCH NO BETTER GIFT YOU COULD GIVE A FRIEND THAN TO TELL THEM, I M PRAYING FOR YOU. WHEN YOU RE NOT SURE WHAT TO DO... PRAY. WHEN YOU RE EXCITED... PRAY. WHEN YOU RE HAPPY... PRAY. WHEN YOU RE TEMPTED TO DO THE WRONG THING... PRAY. WHEN YOU MESS UP... PRAY. WHEN YOU RE FRUSTRATED... PRAY. WHEN YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT... PRAY. WHEN YOU DON T GET WHAT YOU WANT... PRAY. Are you sensing a trend here? God wants to hear from you, whatever you re feeling whatever you re going through. He knows you better than you know yourself. And He loves you don t ever forget that! You can always go to Him and know that He s your safe place. He understands. Maybe that seems hard to believe. After all, just because you pray about something doesn t mean it s always going to happen, right? Prayer isn t magic. Only God knows what He s going to do and He has a bigger plan that we can understand. But then again, we know that God does answer prayers! Ask anyone who s been a Jesus-follower for a while and they can tell you some really cool stories about that. Maybe the biggest honor you can give someone is to listen to what s going on in their life and pray for them. That means you ve got to ask. Ask your friend: Is there any way I can pray for you? Or if they share something difficult with you, offer to pray for them. Just make sure that you really do it! Maybe stop and pray with them right then and there. Also, don t forget to pray and thank God when you re celebrating something good. PRACTICE PRAYING FOR EACH OTHER. THAT S HOW GOD DESIGNED OUR FRIENDSHIPS TO WORK! Whatever it is, talk to Him. Practice praying to Him about everything in your life. He s always there for you, no matter what! PRAY TO GOD TALK ABOUT GOD

DAY 4 Just for fun, write down a couple of topics that you and your friends always like to talk about. DAY 1 READ MATTHEW 16:13-20 This passage comes from a time when Jesus was getting more and more popular, and people were starting to wonder who He really was. It s easy to talk about those things, right? But let s be honest. Talking about God can be a bit more challenging. Sometimes it seems a little intimidating to bring up the topic of what you believe. It s interesting that Jesus asked His disciples two different questions. Go ahead and highlight both of them in your Bible. Here s the good news. Talking about God doesn t have to be a formal thing. It doesn t have to get weird. The truth is, almost everybody is at least a little curious about God. (in other words, Who do people say I am? ) Don t be afraid to bring up the subject. Don t be afraid to invite a friend to church. You never know they might love it! You can talk about God with just about anyone. And you might be surprised how much they enjoy talking about Him too. WHO DO PEOPLE SAY THE SON OF MAN IS? And... WHO DO YOU SAY I AM? It s easy to go along with what other people say is true especially if you really trust them. Maybe you ve grown up with or spent time with friends or family who believe that Jesus is who He said He is the Son of God. But the question really is about you. Who do you say Jesus is? Each person has to decide what they really believe for themselves. No one else can do it for you. So what about you? Who do you say He is? LIVE FOR GOD HEAR FROM GOD WEEK 3 - PRETEEN

DAY 2 DAY 3 We live in a culture right now where everyone wants to share the cool things they ve done with other people. Social media has made this so easy! It s amazing what you can learn from other people. You ve just got to decide in advance that you re going to listen. And it also helps to ask good questions! For example, if you re spending the day at the aquarium, your older sister is probably going to take some selfies with the stingrays and make an Instagram story. You probably have one of those questions that you ve always wondered about. It could be something really challenging, like Why do bad things happen to good people? Or it could be something other people have said about God that doesn t necessarily make sense to you. CAN YOU RELATE? DOES THAT HAPPEN IN YOUR FAMILY? It s important to talk about God with other people. That can become a habit, just like posting about your highlight reel on Facebook or Twitter. One really cool way to do it is to tell others what God has done in your life. You can share a prayer that God answered, when He came through for you in a big way. DON T KEEP IT TO YOURSELF WHEN YOU SEE GOD DO SOMETHING AMAZING. BECAUSE WHAT HE DOES IS ALWAYS WORTH SHARING! PRAY TO GOD Think of some people you know who are really committed to God. It could be your mom or dad, a grandparent, small group leader, or maybe a teacher at school. When you find a good time for it, ask them if it would be OK if you ask them a question about God. Tell them you really respect them and you d like to know what they think. Now, they might not know the answer. (Depending on the question, there may not be an answer that we can fully understand.) BUT ONE THING S FOR SURE YOU LL BE LEARNING AND GROWING IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD BY TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT REALLY MATTERS! TALK ABOUT GOD

DAY 4 If you decide to live for God, you ve got to decide NOT to do something first. You ve got to decide NOT to live just for yourself. Now, no one said this would be easy. But God calls us to a high standard. And He knows it takes practice and commitment! Circle the words below that you want to be true about you. Cross out the words that you want to leave behind. Generous Selfish Open-Handed Stubborn Passionate Flexible Caring Lazy Committed Greedy Self-Absorbed If you want to get there if you want to live out those circled words you definitely need God s help. And you need to practice making small decisions each day that will lead you where you want to go. It s worth the fight to know that you re truly living for God! LIVE FOR GOD DAY 1 READ MARK 12:41-44 GIVE 110%. GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT. GIVE IT ALL YOU VE GOT! We say things like that all the time. We admire athletes who leave it all on the field. We celebrate people who are all in. Can you think of anyone like that? What if you were looking at the crowd that day, when Jesus saw the widow give her coins? You would have seen the rich people giving large amounts of money. You might have thought, Wow, they re so generous! But Jesus saw something different. The rich people only gave a tiny portion of their lives to God but the widow gave everything. Even though she gave less money, she gave more generously because of her attitude. Simply put, she had decided to live for God. She had made a commitment: to give the money she had toward God s Temple. It wasn t for show. It wasn t to be seen by others. But Jesus saw her and He knew she was all in! HEAR FROM GOD WEEK 4 - PRETEEN

DAY 2 DAY 3 A bright neon sign points people to a restaurant. A one-way road sign tells you which direction you should go. The hands on a clock point toward the numbers, so you always know the time. Our lives can point somewhere too... if we let them. That s what worship is all about. It s not just about singing, or even about thanking God in your prayers. It s deciding that you re going to live your life in a way that honors God and points other people toward Him. And other people notice when you decide to live for God. AFTER ALL... THEY SEE HOW YOU MAKE WISE CHOICES. THEY SEE THE WAY YOU TRUST GOD NO MATTER WHAT. THEY SEE HOW YOU TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. Tonight, ask your parents this question: WHO S SOMEONE YOU REALLY ADMIRE BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY LIVE FOR GOD? Ask them to tell you the full story. Why they chose that person. What makes them stand out? What you ll find is that their chosen person isn t perfect. None of us are. But they probably have some habits that help them live God s way. Before you go to bed, write down a couple of sentences of how you d like to stand out how you d like to live for God. I WANT TO STAND OUT BY.... Ask Him to help you point His way with the choices you make every day. PRAY TO GOD TALK ABOUT GOD
