Beginner, Project, and Technique Classes This Winter, we re focusing on expanding your knitting skills. We ve designed these classes to take you to the next level so you re ready to learn new knitting techniques to use on future projects! Classes are $30 unless stated otherwise and include unlimited follow up help. Classes run from an hour to two hours. Advance sign up is required so we can send you some class preparation material. If you need help picking out yarn, just come in a little early and we would be glad to help you! Please bring smooth scrap yarn with a gauge (4 to 5 sts per inch) with matching needles for swatches. Classes to Get You Started Knitting 101 with Rachel on Wednesdays from 2:30 pm to 4 pm A 90-minute class that will get you knitting in no time! Technique Classes Continental Knitting Want to knit faster with better tension and less stress on your hands? You ll learn to knit and purl with the yarn in your left hand. If you are an experienced knitter, this is an invaluable trick for knitting Fair Isle with a color in each hand. - Materials: Bring smooth yarn for swatching Knitting in the Round with 2 (or 3) Circulars You ll forget all about Double Pointed Needles once you earn to knit hats, socks and gloves on 2 circular needles. You ll knit the perfect-go to hat for everyone in your life. We ll knit it in a nice chunky gauge for fast results, but you ll be able to modify gauge for future projects. This is a free 30-minute class! - Materials: 1 skein of Cascade 128 Superwash and 2 16 size US 10 circular needles Intro to Sock Knitting Want to join the masses of sock lovers? This intro 2-hour class will serve as a template for your future sock knitting. This toe up sock and short row heal design is versatile and easy to remember. You will learn Judy s Magic Cast On, German Short Row Heels, and knitting on 2 circular needles. We ll also discuss yarn and sizing. - Materials: We will be knitting a small sample that can be completed in 2 hours. Smooth yarn gauge of 18 to 22 sts per 4 (not sock yarn) with 2 16 to 24 needles to match. If you have sock yarn and needles bring them, otherwise we can help get you set up during class.
Project Classes Samples for all projects are located in our retail store. Marlette Lake Mittens Fun, quick knit project that s great for gifts. Learn Judy s Magic Cast On, knitting on 2 circulars, faux cables, and afterthought thumb. - Materials: Smooth yarn, wool or alpaca blend (4.5 to 5 sts per 1 ). Samples in the store knit with Rowan Kid Classic and Cascade 220 Merino. Two 16 to 24 circular needles. Ever wonder why knit hats are round when our heads are oval? This decorative shaping results in an oval hat - and YES, you can tell the difference when you try it on. Two design options great for guys and gals. - Materials: We ll swatch the hat top first so bring about 50 yards of Sport to DK weight scrap yarn and 2 16-24 circular needles. Project: If you d like to start one of the 2 design options you ll want a sport weight (24-26 sts per 4 ) merino based yarn in 1-3 colors. Next Step Socks Follow class to our Intro to Sock class. These fun faux cable ribbed or lace patterened garments are great starter socks. - Materials: Swatching yarn and 2 circulars. Sock yarn with gauge of 8 sts per 1, i.e. Cascade Heritage Sock and 2 16 circulars that will knit to gauge (US1-2). Tunisian Crochet/Knitting Try something new with this $20 class craft that has aspects of both knitting and crochet. Easy and fast to learn. It is also a good introduction to yarn crafts for younger knitters. This is a technique that is actually easier with two colors and looks good in a variety of yarns. - Skill levels: All - Materials: 2 colors of smooth yarn in gauge of 22 sts per 4.
