CF at a glance 1. Mision / vision Present CF o Blah 2. What do we do o Blah 2

CF at a glance 3

CF at a glance in : Founding member, promoting the initiative since the proposal phase (2010+) Coordinator of IP1 Rolling Stock, and Technical demonstrator TD1.2 TCMS ctive partner in the main technical and non-technical activities of the initiative 4

CF s Experience in Shift2Rail Why Shift2Rail? Focused effort aligned with a long term strategy 5

CF s Experience in Shift2Rail Major Benefits of perceived by as industrial member: Risk sharing in a pre-competitive development phase. Together we can be more innovative! Technical feasibility proven at higher TRL Gap towards deployment reduced Critical mass: The involvement of the majority of the sector including all types of stakeholders reduces the market risk of innovation Strategic approach: Defines and deploys a consistent long-term strategy for the sector Solid and stable long-term program aligned with the common strategy for the sector more fluid cooperation between stakeholders: Shift2Rail is promoting a stable cooperation culture in Research & Innovation across the European Rail sector 6

CF s Experience in Shift2Rail success case in Shift2Rail: 2018 2026 CONNECT develops the next generation of Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS) architectures and components with wireless capabilities. CONNECT conducts research into new technological concepts, standard specifications and architectures for train control and monitoring, with specific applications in train-to-ground communications and high safety electronic control of brakes. 7

Vision beyond Shift2Rail The railway sector faces major challenges in the next decade(s): The concept of mobility will change: New trends enabled by new technologies all modes of transport need re-think their contribution to the integrated mobility of the future! Clean / 0 emissions will be a must: Decarbonisation is a major long term social objective. Specific technology to be developed Pressure for competitiveness will increase, in the widest sense: o o Other players in the sector coming from outside Europe ( Including new players that are not in the sector Today!) Other modes of transport ( Including new modes of transport that do not even exist Today! The European railway sector will need to face these challenges in a strategic and coordinated way 8

Vision beyond Shift2Rail ERRC Vision 2050 : High-level sector wide consensus vision of the future 1 2 9

How to achieve the visions? The Key Enablers of the Visions: DVNCED MOBILITY OF THE FUTURE CLEN & COMPETITIVE RILWY SYSTEMS The Visions show high-level, integrated, objectives for the future utomated Rail Transport Seamless Mobility Security & Protection Digitalisation Optimised Infrastructure Zero Emision Railway New Certification Framework Maintenance of the Future Digital Supply Chain The key enablers are individual areas that must be targeted to fulfil the Visions 10

How to achieve the visions? For Example: Key Enabler Digitalisation Digitalisation supports all other key enablers Enabler of enablers Digitalisation Specific objectives: Standard, open architectures to support fast and widespread deployment across the sector dvanced data management and analytics tools adapted to our needs New digital applications tailored to the needs of future mobility Main technical areas of activity: Data Collection and communication More value from data: data management, analytics,.i. 11

How to achieve the visions? For Example: Key Enabler utomated Rail Transport utomated Rail Transport supports high capacity and performance and is the key to connect with other transport modes utomated Rail Transport Specific objectives: llow the integration of rail into the intermodal door-todoor transport of the future Massively Increase the capacity of the railway system Increase service quality and support the improvement of performance aspects such as energy consumption Main technical areas of activity: Go3/4 solutions for autonomous units Communication technologies TO / ETCS. dvanced ERTMS (Satellite, Moving Block ) dvanced traffic management 12

How to achieve the visions? For Example: Key Enabler Zero Emissions Railway Zero Emission Railway will respond to the social and institutional demands for decarbonisation and sustainability. Railway has the features to remain the cleanest mode of transport. Zero Emission Railway Specific objectives: Holistic approach to energy consumption reduction involving rolling stock & infrastructure lternatives to diesel traction Reduction of noise and vibrations Main technical areas of activity: Energy storage and charging technologies. lternative propulsion technologies Energy efficient operation (TO, Connected DS ) New materials, application of digitalisation, new simulation techniques 13

Summary CF s perspective on Shift2Rail: The Shift2Rail initiative gives the railway sector an adequate framework to develop European R&I: ligned with a common strategy Providing suitable conditions to reduce technical and market risks Shift2Rail has formed the basis of closer cooperation culture within the European railway sector bout the future : The visions of the future suggest fast changes in the concept of mobility and strong competitive pressures The European railway sector needs to face these challenges in a strategic and coordinated way Shift2Rail 2.0 in FP9 would provide the rail sector the best prospects for the future 14
