WE CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO INTERNATIONAL TABLET COMPRESSION WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY LABORATORY OF SOLID DOSAGE FORM PROCESSES AT UCT PRAGUE JANUARY 25 26, 2017 FROM 9:00 DEPARTMENT OF ORGANIC TECHNOLOGY, UCT PRAGUE TECHNICKÁ 5, 166 28 PRAGUE 6 LECTURE ROOM AII
In 2015, Laboratory of Solid Dosage Form Processes was refitted at University of Chemistry and Technology Prague. This step finalized the efforts to establish a facility dedicated to complex study of unit operations utilized in the solid dosage form manufacturing processes in pharmaceutical industry. The laboratory focuses the research activities on properties of particulate solids, unit operations of blending, wet granulation, compaction, and tablet compression, as well as characterizing the intermediate and final product properties. In this area continue in the tradition of cooperation with Zentiva Company and other companies involved in solid dosage form industry in the field of dosage form technology development. The laboratory is equipped by a tablet press/compaction analyzer supplied by Gamlen Tableting, full set of devices for evaluating tablet properties by Sotax and a series of instruments for measuring properties of particulate solids, including the surface energy measurement. There is also available a broad range of common techniques for material characterization at UCT Prague. Finalizing this stage of laboratory infrastructure, together with our experience in supplying the desired results to our industrial partners and interpretation of both laboratory and industrial results represent a background we want to exploit for organizing a workshop focused on a complex topic tablet compression and associated procedures involving the particulate solids and finished dosage forms. We decided not to limit the event to a national level, but rather to organize it with
strong international participation in co-operation with a network of foreign laboratories using similar infrastructure. However, the workshop is not limited to users of specific laboratory equipment. It is aimed at providing deeper understanding of tablet compression process, including the relationships between the properties of raw particulate solids and those of the finished dosage forms, without being limited by particular equipment. Therefore, we cordially invite all interested persons. The workshop follows a two-days schedule. The first day will be dedicated to lectures related to application studies in tablet compression and tablet properties areas. We tried to combine both the general lectures (which may be even in Czech) to introduce all participants into the problem and the more specialized topics, which will present state-of-the-art techniques in some fields. At the same time, we wanted to keep application oriented focus to fulfill the moto: By understanding the principles towards better process, i.e. to suggest procedures leading to application of academic understanding to the principles into the industrial sphere. The second day will be dedicated to working with the real instruments in our laboratory. Demonstration scenarios will be prepared to illustrate selected case studies, but we are open to the option to test the own samples brought by the participants. If you are interested in working with your own samples, it should be indicated at registration, but you should be aware that testing the samples included into the program will be accessible also to other participants of the workshop. The total capacity is limited by maximum number of approximately 40 people. Therefore, please do not delay your registration. During the workshop, the refreshment and lunches will be provided to participants. Owing to this and to cover part of the expenses related to the foreign speakers/lecturers, the participation is subject to a modest registration fee of 1300 CZK. We decided for this option to keep the program as technical as possible, without the commercial presentations of the sponsors. Despite it, the registration fee is not going to cover all expenses and a substantial part of the expenses will be covered by our key partners Technoprocur, Sotax, and Pragolab. The sponsors were selected because they supplied the key infrastructure to our laboratory and agreed to support the active participation without any requirement of commercial presentations. Also, they will take a substantial part of the organization burden associated with the workshop. The registration will be managed by Tomáš Balada (Technoprocur).
