Alternative Dispute Resolution: In 1986 Bill Holohan became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London), and in 1998 he became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London). In 2000, he was appointed by the U.S. based International Arbitration Forum, becoming the first ever Irish solicitor on their International Arbitration Forum, Panel of Arbitrators. In 2004 he was also appointed to the Mediator and Adjudicator Panels of the Private Residential Tenancies Board, and to the Disputes Resolution Committee of the PRTB, (a statutory body), and was re-appointed for a further three-year term in 2007. (He sat as an Adjudicator, Mediator and as a Tribunal Chair/Member (for hearing of appeals) in over 200 PRTB cases). During this period, he undertook specialised Tribunal Chairmanship training with the Judicial Studies Board in the UK. In 2007, he was first accredited by CEDR, (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, London), as an Accredited CEDR Mediator and was also later accredited by CIArb, (the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London). He was a founding member and is the current Honorary Secretary / Treasurer of www.commercialmediators.ie a group of Accredited Commercial Mediators who advocate Mediation as the preferred alternative to contentious dispute resolution. He is also a member of the Irish Commercial Mediators Association. In 2010, he was elected as a member of the Committee of the Irish Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In 2010, at the request of the Law Society of Ireland Diploma Programme he wrote the aforementioned "ADR and Mediation in Ireland, 2010 & Beyond" a comprehensive review of the development of ADR and mediation in Ireland up to that point in time. A number of other articles written by him on mediation, as listed above, have been published in the journal: "Arbitration and ADR Review", published by First Law, Dublin. He is also a Certified Member of the Mediators Institute of Ireland. In October 2015 he was elected to the Council of the Mediators Institute of Ireland. 2018 Northside Cork City Business Awards Winner: Special Merit Business Award Holohan Law. In 2013 he became the Treasurer of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Irish Branch and in 2015, (the Centenary Year of the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators), he was elected as the Honorary Secretary. In 2016 he became the Vice Chairman. In 2017 he became the Chairman. He has, over a period of over 20 years, acted as arbitrator (and representative) in a wide variety of different types of ADR disputes. He is a member of the Law Society of Ireland s Arbitration Panel and Mediations Panel. He has acted both as a mediator and as an arbitrator in a very large number of cases over the past 25 years, on the nomination of: the President of the Law Society, The President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators insurance companies, fellow solicitors, accountants, financial institutions, The CEO of the Irish Dental Association, and other ADR professionals, dealing with disputes arising out of contracts for the sale of land, share sale agreements, insurance policies, professional indemnity claims and coverage disputes, company / shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, franchising and commercial agreements, intellectual property agreements, publishing agreements, leases and letting agreements, employment disputes etc. He has acted, successfully, over the past 10 years in this country as a Mediator/Arbitrator in a wide range of commercial (and non-commercial) disputes, (as well as acting as a representative and advisor in many such matters). (He has also assisted in very high value commercial mediations in the UK).

In 2015, Chambers Ireland promoted a Business Mediation Scheme with the support of the Law Society of Ireland, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the Bar Council of Ireland, and Bill Holohan had the unique distinction to be nominated by two of the three supporting bodies. For 2017 2018, he is: Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Ireland (with responsibility for the Mediation Special Interest Group), Member of the Council of the Mediators Institute of Ireland, Honorary Secretary/Treasurer of www.commercialmediators.ie, A member of the Law Society of Ireland ADR Committee, A member of the Irish Commercial Mediators Association, and is in a unique co-ordinating role in that regard, particularly in light of the recent enactment of the Mediation Act 2017. Private / Charitable Interests: In his private capacity, he has been involved in the voluntary (third) sector in both the Republic of Ireland, and in Northern Ireland. He has a particular interest in youth work having been involved in the Scouting movement for almost 50 years, starting as a youth member in 1967 and later having served: many years as an active scouter at local and regional level, six years as National Secretary of Scouting Ireland C.S.I., four years as Chairman of FISA, (the Federation of Irish Scout Associations), (the last chairman of FISA, leading the two major Scout associations in Ireland into a process which led to the establishment of the single Scouting Association, Scouting Ireland).

He served 9 years as a trustee nominee member of a school board of a secondary school. He served a number of years as a parent representative on the board of management of a primary school. He is and has been a trustee of the Cork Catholic Young Men s Society (a registered charity) since 2004. He has acted as an adviser (and sponsor) to a number of charities and public interest groups including: o Scouting Ireland,* (where he served as National Secretary for 6 years), o Gaisce-The President s Award,* o The Cork Catholic Young Men s Society,* o Grow,* (a mental health organisation), o Friends of Londiani,* (a Kenyan aid group), o Kanchi,* (a disability awareness group where he served as Company Secretary for a number of years) o Post Polio Support Group,* o Irish Autism Action,* and o Addiction Counsellors of Ireland.* *registered charities.

In 2016, he was appointed by the Minister for Justice to serve as a member of the Charity Appeals Tribunal for a period of five years. Business Awards: Bill Holohan's business knowledge is not confined solely to an advisory role. In addition to acting as solicitor and advisor to private clients and business clients he is the company secretary and / or company director of 16 companies carrying on different types of business. In January 2003 he was named by the Cork Business News Magazine as Business Person of the Month. In 2004 he was featured by Vodafone as one of the voices and faces of SME s in Ireland, in their business customer profile campaign. In 2007 he was awarded the FRANCISE PERSON OF THE YEAR Award, awarded by the Members of the Irish Franchise Association, the representative body of the franchising industry in Ireland, the only service professional ever to be so recognised by the industry. He is a shareholder and Director and Company Secretary of the Aura Leisure group of companies, and in 2007, along with his co-directors, won both the Overall 02 Ability Award in the private sector 2007, and the EIQA Best Management Team Award. He is also a director of 20 limited liability companies operating the business, economic and voluntary (third) sector. Commissioner for Oaths & Notary Public: In 1986 he was appointed by the President of the High Court as a Commissioner for Oaths, In April

2000, he made legal history when he was appointed as a Notary Public for the Cities and Counties of both Dublin and Cork. (Traditionally, a Notary Public was appointed for one area only and Bill Holohan is the first person to be appointed for both Dublin and Cork). The Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Ronan Keane, in appointing Mr. Holohan described him as "pre-eminently qualified". Published Books: Mr Holohan is the co-author of a number of books on - Bankruptcy Law & Practice, (2 nd Edition, 2010), - Leasing (Ireland), - International Civil Procedures, (1 st - 4 th Editions), - Insolvency Law in Ireland, (1 st & 2 nd Editions), - International Rescue of Companies, (1 st & 2 nd Editions), - Lawyers Professional Negligence & Insurance. - Buying & Selling Insolvent Companies & Businesses in Ireland. Commercial Connections: He is the Legal Advisor to the Irish Franchise Association, as well as being a Director of the Association. He is also an Executive Committee Member of the Irish Maritime Law Association, (http://www.irishmaritimelaw.ie) since 1983, as well as being a Titulary Member of the Comite Maritime Internationale. He is also a former Honorary Secretary to the Association. Having been one of its original founder members, Bill Holohan also served as a member of the Council of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners from 2009 to 2014. He is a Consultant on Insolvency to the Law School of the Law Society of Ireland and has an acted as Internal Examiner for the Law Society Examination on the subject of Insolvency. In 2014, at the request of the Law Society of Ireland, he travelled to Hungary, as part of an EU funded delegation, for the purpose of training Hungarian insolvency judges.

Maritime Law: Bill Holohan as one of the few recognised authorities on the issue of Maritime law in Ireland. His LL.B. thesis in 1983 was on the subject of Limitation of Liability under the Merchant Shipping Acts 1884 1981. He is one of the longest serving members of the Executive Committee of the Irish Maritime Law Association (I.M.L.A.), having been a Committee Member for 35 years and has also served as Secretary of the I.M.L.A. He is one of the few Titulary Members of the Comité Maritime International in Ireland. Mr Holohan has lectured and spoken on maritime matters and delivered papers on a wide range of Maritime matters including: Limitation of Liability under the Merchant Shipping Acts, Jurisdiction of the Admiralty Courts in Ireland, Registration and Mortgage of Ships in Ireland, The Ranking of Mortgages and Claims against an arrested ship in Ireland, Rights, Duties and Responsibilities of Seafarers and Passengers, Limitation of Liability under the Liability Convention, Coastal Zone Management, A Legal Perspective, and The Investigation of Marine Casualties Bill. He advises and represents parties dealing with issues relating to maritime, shipping and marine insurance matters.
