BT 20 / GSM 2004 FIELD EXTHENSOR FOR GSM 900MHz BAND INTRODUCTION The BT 20 is a GSM telephone signal extensor able to increase the coverage of the provider. It s a two-way system the amplifiers are active in both direction, down link and up link. UTILIZATION It can be used in offices, restaurants, houses, hotels, commercial centres, countryside and where the outdoor signal as well it s not able to enter because there are obstacles as concrete walls, basements etc. The BT 20 is a wide band operation; it puts all the communications into 900 MHz GSM band. EUROPEAN RULES The BT 20 is not a radio transmitter, but it is an accessory, without any other generator equipment. It does not transmit any radio signal (European rules EN 55022 - EN50081-1 - EN 50082-2- ETSI300 609-4, 1999/5/CE), CE523(!) harmonized rules and frequency band. SAFETY ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD BT 20 is a low power device. Normally the level of the field amplified is equal or lower than the level radiated from the provider and present in the ether (air). Anyway, the level of safety is lower than standard safety recommendation (5-6V meter): BT 20 s usually it is 1.5V meter. COMPARISON TO HAND SET TELEPHONE. In presence of low signal field, a cellular telephone increases automatically its power until reaching a value of 100V meter near the user s head. By using the BT 20, the radio electric field is reduced of nearly 100 times (1,5 V meter), an absolute safety level. The use of BT 20 reduces the operative electromagnetic field
INSTALLATION BT 20 includes all the parts necessary for the installation. External antennas The two directional antennas have to be placed on the roof of the building (minimum distance 3-4 meters one from the other) oriented toward the provider cell. One of them has the antenna preamplifier (the red plastic box). Before install the BT20, verify the presence of the signal observing the field intensity indicated by a normal mobile telephone: more signal, more link efficiency. Internal or environmental antennas The two omni-directional antennas have to be placed into the area you want to cover at the farthest possible between them (minimum distance 3-4 meters one from the other). Anyway, they have to be placed shielded from the directive antennas, in order to avoid re-entries between input and output of the BT 20. Main device installation The amplifier part (the aluminium box jointed to the power supply) has to be installed indoor, protected against rain and cold. Installation in open areas If the BT 20 is used to extend the signal in small valleys or hills, it will be necessary to place the receiving antennas toward the provider cell - shielded from omni directional antennas. It is possible to use the two slopes of a hill or two sides of a building, placing the antennas the farthest possible between them in order to avoid re-entries of signal. Installation into galleries or tunnels. The BT 20 has to be installed into a box, shielded from the rain and the atmospherics agents. The two directive antennas have to be placed toward the provider cell; the two other ones into the tunnel (directional is better).
CABLES LENGHT The coax cables extension can reduce the signal. If extension is necessary, use only low loss coax cable as H100 or celflex with connectors supplied by Microset. If you use a normal cable, BT 20 looses its efficiency. POWER SUPPLY The BT 20 operates on low voltage obtained from the power supply. If it is necessary to supply the BT20 against power failure with a continuous system, we can purchase a power supply with floating batteries mod. IP 512 1-B (emergency system). In this way it is guaranteed the operating also when the 220V mains falls. OPERATIVITY The maximum of the telephonic efficiency is reachable near the environment antennas without obstacles between. Also, the input field intensity of the signal determines the efficiency level: if this is very low, the result will be not very good. For that it is very important to place the external antennas in an efficient position with the max input signal. VERY IMPORTANT ESSENTIAL OPERATING CONDITIONS OF BT 20 1. For an efficient operatively of BT 20 system, it is necessary that the signal is coming clear from the cell provider without any reflections. Before installing the antennas on the roof, verify that the signal should be not less than 30-40% of the full level indicated by GSM telephone. 2. The two directional (OR OPTION OMNI-DIRECTIONAL) antennas must be placed on the roof of the building, the two indoor omni-directional antennas and shielded from the directive antennas, in order to avoid re-entries in input of BT 20. Input and output are operative on same frequency. To obtain these conditions we suggest taking advantage by concrete walls or metallic roof, floors, etc. 3. Installation in basements, offices, condominiums, houses, restaurants, hotels, etc. The outdoor antennas must be placed on the roof at 4-5 mt. between them and oriented toward the provider cell, vertical polarization. The internal antennas must be placed into the area you want to cover with the signal (minimum 4-5 mt. between them). If the cable supplied is not long enough, you must use Microset extension with plugs; the models are: PR 10 (mt. 10), PR 20 (20 mt.), PR 33 (mt. 33). If you don t use low loss cable or other type of cable the BT 20 cannot operate. 4. External installation, hills, valleys, tunnels, metropolitan. To eliminate input-output noise-oscillation of BT 20 it is necessary to observe the following conditions: A. The directive antennas must receive a good signal. (outdoor) They must not see the omni directional antennas. (indoor) B. Change the omni-directional (indoor) antennas with directional antennas LOG 5 or CT4 (on request); so it is possible irradiating the signal only to the operating area without interferences on the input. C. Place the antennas on hills, buildings, etc. Two antennas on one side, the others on the other side. D. Use an extension coax cables (on request) to limiting interference between input and output side of the BT20 main amplifier.
THE MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS BY INSTALLERS Can BT 20 repeat all phone operators? Yes, if the frequency is 900MHz and the cells of the operators are in directions of the antennas. Can BT 20 operate at 1.8GHz? No, it operates only at 900MHz. In absence of 1.8GHz frequency signal, all GSM telephones active themselves on 900MHz band automatically. Why BT 20 repeats the signal of one operator and not the signal of the others? It means that there is signal of that operator into the input of BT 20. Other operators have not signal field or the direction of external antennas eliminates the other signal. How can I active all operators even if the cell providers are placed in different position? It is necessary to place the external antennas toward the operator s cells. If it is not possible because the providers cell are in totally different direction, it will necessary to use roof omni-directional antennas (the code order is 2xC900), both 150.00 without coax cables or very hi-gain type, order code 2xCT4. Is cost is 360,00 both. This last type of antenna has very extensive signal field, also 360. The best way is ordering the BT20-OM, which includes the two roof omni-directional antennas with assembled coax cables and connectors. Can I install the two omni-directional antennas in different place (floor, rooms)? No, they must be placed in the same position, at 3-4 mt. between them because one antenna receives and the other transmits the signal in contemporary. ALL THE ANTENNAS MUST BE INSTALLED ON VERTICAL POLARIZATION
INSTALLATION BT20 omnidirectional antennas Provider cell IMPORTANT: 1. The outside antennas should be installed in the most favorable position to receive the highest signal from the repeater cell. Between them should be the max distance (3-4 mt. minimum). 2. The BT20 s base and its power supply must be installed indoor. 3. The two high-gain antennas used inside to improve the GSM range must be installed inside at the max distance between them (minimum 3-4 mt.)

It improves the bi-directional signal for 2-3 Km, from and to provider cell. The system is broadband, all communications into GSM band are available (10 communications together); of course, more telephone traffic, more slow activity. Very easy installation. The two directional antennas (one of these includes preamplifier) have to be installed on the top of the building (more is the signal field more efficient is the system). Two omni directional antennas (option two directional antennas for open areas) can be installed into the area you need to cover, in a shielded position from the directional antennas (external).
