Kaieteur Shawl Notes: The extra-long gradient of this shawl is achieved by regularly alternating between two skeins of yarn. To create the extra-long gradient with 2 gradient cakes: Find the same color on both skeins. Work cast-on and set up rows in skein one. Attach skein two, without breaking skein one, and work rows and 2 of chart. Work rows and 4 with skein one. Continue working two rows from one skein, then working two rows from the other skein in this manner for the length of the shawl. For Mini Skeins: work the same as gradient cakes, using the same color of skeins from each pack, changing colors as you run out of both mini skeins All rows are worked with two edge es in garter. These es as well as the center are not included on the charts. Odd rows are charted and worked from right to left. Work each RS (odd) row as follows: K2 (edge es), work chart, K (center ), work chart again, K2 (edge es). Even rows are not included on the charts and should be worked as: K2, purl to last two es, K2. In order to increase the size of the shawl: Work additional repeats of chart 2. Each additional repeat of chart 2 will result in an increase of 2 es per row. Or work additional repeats of chart. Each additional repeat of chart will result in an increase of 64 es. Boxed areas of charts indicate pattern repeat across rows. See instructions below for additional information. Use markers at center and between pattern repeats if necessary. Markers between pattern repeats may need to be moved between charts and chart repeats. Special Bind-off For the k2tog bind off: K2, sl sts onto left needle, k2togtbl, *K, sl sts onto left needle, k2togtbl*, repeat * until all sts are bound off. DIRECTIONS Cast on es using long tail cast on. Set up rows: Row : K, M, K, M, K. (sts.) Row 2: K all sts. Begin working charts: Work chart once, including edge es. ( sts.) Work chart 2 six times. Work boxed pattern repeat two times for the first repeat of chart, four times for the second, six times for the third, eight times for the fourth, ten times for the fifth, and twelve times for the sixth repeat. Move markers between pattern repeats one to the left on row. (24 sts.) Work chart two times. Work boxed pattern repeat seven times for the first chart repeat and nine times for the second. Move markers between pattern repeats one to the right on rows and. ( sts.) Work chart 4 once. Work boxed pattern repeat eleven times. Move markers between pattern repeats one to the left on row.
