Candidates Summary The following TPCAR members have expressed interest and are willing to serve as officers and/or on the Board of Directors in 2011. Please take a moment to become familiar with their background. You will be electing a President-Elect, Treasurer-Elect, and Board members for Gig Harbor, North Pierce County, Puyallup, Tacoma and University Place/Lakewood/Dupont. This communication will be followed with an opportunity to vote by email for the candidates of your choice. If you are unable to connect by email, or wish to vote by paper ballot, please contact staff at the TPCAR office for instructions. 253-473-0232. All votes must be cast by 5 pm Tuesday, August 31. The election results will be announced the first week in September. Kevin Mullin Kevin Mullin 2010 TPCAR President 1

President-Elect Craig Hill I appreciate being asked to run for President of our association for 2012. It is an honor to be considered and I m asking you to honor me further with your vote. The mission of the Tacoma Pierce County Association of REALTORS becomes increasingly critical as the difficult economic times continue. We have fewer members; and, therefore, fewer funds to continue our contributions to our community, our efforts to protect individual real property rights from unenlightened government and our advocacy of a healthy, profitable business environment for our members. I believe that our industry is leading our economic recovery and, as REALTORS, we have to continue to lead our industry. I ve been a member of TPCAR since 1989, served four separate terms as Treasurer, 3 years as your Director, and more than a decade on the Professional Standards/Grievance Committees. I ve received some honors along the way but none more appreciated than the 2009 President s Award. TPCAR is a tremendous asset to our community, our industry and each of us personally. It has been a privilege to serve. Please allow me to continue that service as President in 2012. Denny Woyak I began my Real Estate career in 1991 with Hawkins-Poe, and then spent four years with All American Homes prior to a ten year tenure with Windermere Real Estate. Currently, I am the Broker/Manager for KeyMark Real Estate. Throughout my nearly 20 years in the Real Estate industry, I have gained experience working with various companies in a variety of facets, including new construction, commercial, vacant land, developing, training agents and management. In 2008, I was presented with a great opportunity to open the doors of KeyMark Real Estate. Over many years I have participated on the Grievance Committee, Professional Standards Committee, as well as the Board for TPCAR. I believe that the current board and staff members have been and continue to work very hard on behalf of agents and have done an excellent job. If elected as President, I wish to continue supporting the current board members direction and would enjoy working with qualified people who are passionate about the industry. 2

Treasurer-Elect Matt Thomson My real estate career began in May, 2004, after a seven-year career as a math teacher at Life Christian Academy in Tacoma. In addition to running my own successful real estate business in which I've earned TPCAR Sales Achievement Awards in '07 and '09, I have served the past four years as the Finance Chairman for the Keller Williams Agent Leadership Council. I believe that the Treasurer is a vital part of TPCAR. It's no secret that REALTORS have taken a financial hit the past few years, and it's my goal to help TPCAR develop and stick to a budget that is financially prudent without sacrificing the value that TPCAR delivers. Although TPCAR serves its members well, I look forward to contributing more to our organization. I am eager to provide new and fresh perspectives to our budgeting committee, while honoring the work that has been done by those before me. I have been a regular attendee of TPCAR functions and membership meetings, as I believe it is imperative that our elected officials have a full appreciation and understanding of our organization. I look forward to serving you more! Dan Bennett I was born and raised in Pierce County, graduated from Peninsula High School, Pierce College and Pacific Lutheran University, and have owned numerous businesses over the years throughout the Pierce County. My wife of 23 years still owns & operates our coffee company Martin Henry Coffee. For nearly seven years, I have had the opportunity to follow in my fathers footsteps and serve clients out of the John L Scott office in Gig Harbor as a REALTOR. Helping people navigate this complicated world of real estate has become my passion, and I am excited for the opportunity to give back to the professional community that has paved the way for me. I have earned the CRS & GRI designations, and remain committed to education. For the past 9 years I have served on the Pierce College Foundation Board, having served on numerous committees, as Treasurer, and am currently the Foundation Board President. This experience has provided me with the intimate understanding how important it is to give back to something I believe in. I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as the TPCAR Treasurer as we continue working our way through this challenging market. And believe that our work together will provide a better real estate environment both now and into the future. Thank you for your vote and support! 3

Gig Harbor Julia Lindner Runyan Professionalism and ethics have been a passion of mine since the beginning of my Real Estate career in 1989. I continue to be committed to the REALTOR Code of Ethics in the Real Estate industry. I have served the members of the Tacoma-Pierce County Association of REALTORS since 1991. Previously, I served as the Association Treasurer, Gig Harbor Director, Professional Standards Chair and Co-Chair, the Forms committee, and am now looking forward to serving my colleagues again as a Director representing the Gig Harbor area. We are in an historic and dynamic Real Estate market. I will work with you and for you in creating and collaborating success in the Real Estate industry in the years ahead. Thank you in advance for your support! Bob Scott It is my belief that we have a strong local Association and it should remain so with continued forward thinking leadership. I have been a REALTOR for 18 years. I have served on the Professional Standards Committee and Grievance Committee for the last two years. My previous years of employment were primarily in Engineering and Construction Management, which provided me with both people skills and management expertise that would also be an asset to our Board. As a Gig Harbor native, I have worked throughout Pierce County and Western Washington my entire life and have a passion for our industry and community. It would be my pleasure to serve as your Director for 2011 and 2012. Thank you for your support. 4

North Pierce County Colleen Dutmers It would be my pleasure to continue representing you on the TPCAR Board of Directors. I have been a REALTOR and served my clients real estate needs since 1998. My commitment to my clients and fellow REALTORS hasn t changed in these challenging times, in fact my resolve to serve you and my community has grown. We need strong leadership and focus to continue our role as professional REALTORS. I have served you since 2007 on the board and serve on the Grievance Committee and have served on the Education Committee. My commitment to YOU is my time, energy, expertise and my willingness to serve as an advocate for you and our industry. I welcome your support. 5

Parkland/Spanaway Marguerite Giguere Marguerite has been a full time REALTOR at Crescent Realty in Spanaway since 2005. She specializes in buyer representation in the City of Tacoma. Marguerite has served on the TPCAR Board of Directors for the past 2 years, Chaired the TPCAR Communications Committee in 2010, and worked with a team of fellow REALTORS to revamp the TPCAR website in 2010. Marguerite brings a unique perspective to the Board that is often progressive and focuses on how the interests of her clients can be best advocated by the Association. Kim LaMantia I have been a REALTOR for about 5 ½ years. I obtained my GRI designation during my first year in business. I believe education is a primary element to achieving excellence. The Women s Council of REALTOR identified, nurtured and supported a leadership quality that I didn t know I had. I was elected Secretary, then President-Elect and now 2010 President. I believe it is because of this experience that I became certified to teach certificate classes for the WSHFC, became a member of Altrusa International and graduated from the TPCAR Leadership Academy. I am also a graduate of the WCR Leadership Academy. It is my future desire to become involved with legislation that affects our industry. Having a background in land use, I m interested in serving on the Washington REALTOR Land Use Committee. I am currently a TPCAR Director representing WCR. I have had the pleasure of serving on the TPCAR Education Committee in 2009; the Grievance and Outreach Committees in 2010. 6

Puyallup Joe Maxwell Joe has over 30 years of real estate and construction experience. He served as a local State Board Director for the Master Builders Association from 2000 2008 and a local Board Director from 2000 2010. In 1995 through 1999, Joe served on the Pierce County Planning Commission. Joe is a Certified New Home Sales Professional (CSP) and Certified Real Estate Broker (CRB), as well as an Accredited Consultant in Real Estate (ACRE). Joe s interests and hobbies include his family, community service, youth sports coaching, basketball, REALTOR training and coaching, real estate investing and construction, camping/rv ing and Paying it Forward everyday. Joe attended Brigham Young University and graduated with two Degrees from Highline Community College. During the last two years, Joe has served our Association as the Chair of the Brokers Council. In 2008, Joe received TPCAR s Community Service Award. I look forward to continuing my service to our REALTOR members and ask for your vote as the TPCAR Puyallup Director. Joanne Stafford I have been a member of TPCAR since 1978. After attending the Leadership Academy, I am more convinced than ever that it is my time to serve, to give back. Our association needs to lead the way to improving the Real Estate Market in Pierce County and I would like to help. 7

Tacoma Barry Benson It is an honor to be nominated for the Directors position with the Tacoma Pierce County REALTORS Association. The Association is very important to our industry and our profession. I believe the Association does a wonderful job on behalf of our industry with exceptional commitment to the legislative issues that protect us and our clients. The Code of Ethics along with this political representation is what the public expects from Realtors and I am proud to be a Realtor. I have been licensed & a member of TPCAR since 1996 and work with my wife, Sharon Benson. We not only do a wonderful job representing our clients but serve our community on several other boards including Safe Streets, The Tacoma Philharmonic and have served as President of our church board. I am a member of Downtown Tacoma 8 Rotary & am a recovering engineer. Understanding the issues of managing an organization as former General Manager of Milgard, managing major projects as a Project Engineer and working with volunteers in my board positions, I know that I will make a significant contribution to TPCAR and look forward to serving. Joyce Shipley I have been a REALTOR with Windermere Professional Partners for 3 1/2 years. I was born and raised in Southern California and spent 18 years in Print, Direct Mail and Marketing. I live in Gig Harbor; but I work in Gig Harbor, Tacoma, University Place and Fircrest. I am a past board member of the Seacliff Organization where I lived. I was a graduate of the first Leadership Academy at TPCAR and am a member of the Diversity Committee. This year, I am overseeing the development of TPCAR s Leadership Academy. I feel it is important to support and give back to the community that supports me and to share my knowledge, time and talents. 8

Univ. Place/Fircrest/Steilacoom/Lakewood/DuPont Jasmyn Jefferson As a TPCAR Director, my goal is to be a doer and to provide a diverse perspective representing our membership. I believe in getting things done. Jasmyn has been a member of the Tacoma Pierce County Association of REALTORS since 2003 and a multiple year member of the Honor Society. As an active participant with TPCAR, she has been chair of the Diversity Committee, oversaw the successful 2009 launch and implementation of TPCAR s state recognized Leadership Academy, is current chair of the Education Committee, member of the Government Affairs Committee, and is Co-Chair of the Leadership Academy Task Force. In addition, Jasmyn is Vice-President of Membership for the Tacoma-Pierce County Chapter of the Women s Council of REALTORS, and was honored as WCR Member of the Year for 2009. A proponent of education, she has worked with both TPCAR and the City of Tacoma to provide various workshops for both REALTORS and the general public. Jasmyn is a volunteer athletic youth coach and serves on the Metro Parks Board of Directors Advisory Committee for Northwest Youth Sports & Aquatics. Jasmyn and her father, Paul, work together at John L. Scott University Place specializing in residential resale. I always strive to do my best and will be a positive addition to the Board of Directors. Thank you in advance for your support. Kenneth Thiemann My wife of 37 years is Kathleen, and we have three grown children, all married, and four grandchildren. We reside in University Place and are members of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. I was originally licensed as a real estate salesperson in 1972 and passed the broker s exam in 1976. As a member of the Spokane Board of Realtors, I co-chaired a salmon barbeque in the late 70 s for state legislators attending the Western States Legislative Conference being held in Spokane. When I reactivated my broker s license in 2001, I again became a REALTOR member. This past spring I participated in the REALTOR S legislative day in Olympia. I was extremely honored to receive the Spirit Award at the 2009 REALTORS Awards Luncheon in recognition of my efforts to go above and beyond in assisting a client restore his credit. In addition to being a REALTOR, I am also a Graduate of WSU, a state certified appraiser, past member, Director and office holder of the Pierce County Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. While our children were students in the UP School District, we were extremely active in the PTSA where we received the Acorn Award from the UP PTSA Council for the 2000 2001 school year. I look forward to serving my colleagues on the Board of Directors and ask for your vote. Virgil Wells I am seeking the office of Director for UP, Lakewood, DuPont so that I may continue to serve TPCAR. I have been involved since 1988 and believe that I still have much to do for TPCAR. I have served at state level for 13 years. I was the Treasurer for Washington REALTORS in 2006 and the Vice-President of Education for Washington REALTORS in 2010. I have held all four TPCAR Officer positions. I was your President in 2008. In 2008 I earned my Distinguished Service Life Membership. My service includes seven years as a Director, four years as an officer, and many years on our committees. So!!!!!! If you want experience, please vote for me. 9
