Fixture System for jobber drills and tools with short functional length The fixture system offers the best economy of all 4pvd fixture systems for rotating substrates, which basically have to be coated on one mainly (drills, mills, punches, taps, countersinks, etc.). In fixtures the s of the substrates are oriented directly to the evaporators. So these s receive the highest deposition rate. Beside of this no other fixtures system can fit in as many substrates into the coating area. As the substrates themselves do not rotate in the fixtures, this system is very simple, cheap, and reliable and has very long maintenance intervals. fixture with twisted drills Fixtures can be used successfully, if the following conditions are met: The PVD process can achieve sufficient adhesion and colour uniformity over all the coating length. The diameter of the loaded fixture is larger than 2,5 times the over all length of the substrate. The quantity of substrates delivered with each order is high enough to fill at least one module completely. 4pvd offers two standard designs of modules. For relatively small geometries e. g. twisted drills up to 6,0mm diameter full circle modules (as shown above) are - 30 -

preferred. These are loaded directly onto the substrate table or its planetary drives (if their size is big enough). For larger substrates the full circle is divided into four or more segments, which than look like the image below. Quart module with drills d=11mm Full circle modules are simply stacked on a rod in the centre of the substrate table or the planet. Quart modules require a special base jig to be loaded on the substrate table. Some base jigs are shown at the end of this chapter. Quart base jigs With the right peripheral equipment nova fixtures may also be used for cleaning and shipping of the substrates. We may consult you on the way to realize this matter. The next pages show some exemplary modules. These dimensions are common for all standard modules: Module height is 100mm, upwards tilt of the substrate axis is 15. From the data on the next pages you can get the other main data of these modules as the quantities of substrates per module or the distance from to (s1 s2) - 31 -

The Bar system can be helpful for the sampling process for new products and for special tools in small quantities. Like the other modules it consists of a base jig which can be filled with little cartridges. The new thing is that the Bar base jig can be mounted on a substrate table instead of a planetary drive. This allows you to run samples or special tools in the orientation of fixtures together with your standard loads. As the image below shows, you may also use this fixture system to load only a few oversized tools together with your standard products in one batch. Bar base jig with different modules and tools Bar offers a very high flexibility for the coating of different diameters and length. At the same time it can be used to increase the utilization of your PVD furnace even with smallest order lines. Furthermore the Bar system is pretty simple, very robust and available at low investment cost. The Bar system can be combined in one batch together with other fixtures systems, because it occupies the space of one or more satellites. Other than all the other fixture systems the Bar system can increase the utilization of the coating zone if mixed products have to be coated. The cartridges for substrates are clipped into the Bar base jigs. One base jig can take one to three cartridges in each level. The design of the cartridges is very simple and they are cheap and can be delivered quickly. - 32 -

Full Circle Modules 260mm 1-2 full circle module for substrates with cylindrical shank, Ø 1,6 6,0 mm, total length up to 93mm. High limited full circle module P260 with drills 6,0mm Dimensions filled with 6,0mm drills These nova fixtures have a high number of holes on the circumference, drilled at an angle of 15. These holes can be filled with drills, mills, punches or bolts. Inside of the module there is a fence in that position that twisted drills acc. to DIN 338 will be coated approx. 1mm more than the flute length is. Filled with these drills a diameter at the s of dp = 260mm is reached. The quantity of substrates per module and the distance from tool to tool (s1 s2) can be found in the chart below. Higher quantity of substrates per module is generally possible, if lower values for s1 s2 are acceptable. The axles of the substrates are shifted from level to level, so each substrate has maximum free line of sight to the evaporators. Modules for different substrate sizes but with identical d p may be stacked directly upon each other, so after each 100mm a new level will follow. It is recommended to start at the bottom with the modules for the shorter substrates. dsubstrate L Substrate P260B060 5,6-6,0 93 P260B055 5,1-5,5 P260B050 Substrates / module Distance s 1 s2 Ttl. height 3 19 112 4,0 640,00 93 3 112 4,0 640,00 4,6-5,0 86 477 15 4,900 7,00 P260B045 4,1-4,5 80 640 13 4,900 780,00 P260B040 3,6-4,0 75 880 10 4,900 850,00 P260B035 3,1-3,5 70 946 10 5,0 9,00 P260B030 2,6-3,0 61 1680 8 106 5,0 12,00 P260B025 2,1-2,5 57 2600 6 104 5,800 40,00 P260B0 1,6-2,0 49 3634 5 102 6,000 2580,00 Prices are valid for purchase of 1 piece per size.
