Does Economics Education need a Revolution or a Renovation? INVITATION Motivation Whether in secondary school, university or any other part of economics education, we do not see important changes in society and science sufficiently reflected in the curricula. Change As a consequence our students do not learn proper economics, and are ill equipped to deal with important changes in society. This needs to change. But how? And how drastic? 1. SESSION THINKING LIKE AN ECONOMIST 10.00-11.30 Lukasz Hardt, Bas Haring, Govert Buijs and Sam de Muijnck Chair Łukasz Hardt is a associate Professor of economics at the Warsaw. In 2016, he was appointed to the Monetary Policy Council by the President of the Republic of Poland. Bas Haring Is a full professor with chair public understanding of science at Leiden University. He is also Dutch philosopher, writer of popular science and children's literature, television presenter. Govert Buijs holds the Abraham Kuyper Chair for Political Philosophy & Religion VU University Amsterdam He also acts as a policy advisor for (boards of) numerous civil society organisations. Sam de Muijnck is economics student at Amsterdam and former chair of Rethink Economics NL, and one of the authors of Thinking like an economist. Marcel Canoy is distinguished lecturer Erasmus School of Accounting and Assurance, advisor for The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, chair of Long Kanker NL and writer for various Dutch Newspapers. 2

Dembinsky is director of the think-tank Observatoire de la Finance, and Co- President of Ethics & Trust Finance Price. He is economist,and occupies the chair International Strategy and Competition at the Fribourg. Marieke Blom is chief economist at ING bank. She studied International Monetary Economics at the Amterdam and previously worked as polical advisor for PvdA and senior manager at the argumentenfabriek. Session 2: Sustainability and growth Speakers: Sandra Phlippen, Hans Stegeman Column: Bart Wesselink Interview: with Inge Schrijver Chair: Martijn van der Linden Session 3: Geopolitics, Europe and the role of power Speaker: Stephanie Mudge Chair: Joris Tieleman Sandra Phlippen is head of the economics bureau at ABN AMRO, assistant professor of applied economics at Erasmus School of Economics and former economics editor of Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD). Hans Stegeman is the head of Research and Investment Strategy at Triodos Bank and columnist for Dutch news broadcaster (f.i. RTLZ). Formerly worked as chief economist at Rabobank. Currently, writing his thesis on circular economy. Bart Wesselink is senior researcher at Friends of the Earth Netherlands. Formerly worked at PBL, WWF and consultancy Ecofys. Currently writing a book on social inequality and environmental sustainability. 3 Inge Schrijver is graduate of the MA Economics for Transition. She is a participant in the National Think Tank 2018 on circular economics. Stephanie Mudge is Associate Professor of Sociology at the California. She is a historical, political, and economic sociologist specialized in the theoreticallydriven analysis of Western politics, economies, and expertise. Joris Tieleman is PhD Candidate at the Department of Sociology and the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam, secretary of ONE and cofounder of Rethink Economics NL

And student assistant at the European Center for alternative finances. Lans Bovenberg is professor of economics, and holder of the F.J.D. Goldschmeding chair on economics education at Tilburg University. He was awarded with the Spinoza price, the highest scientific award in the Netherlands in 2005. Martijn van der Linden is lector New Finance at The Hague Applied Sciences, PhD at Delft Technology, dept. Economics of Technology and Innovation and chair of Our New Economy (ONE) Jasper Lukkezen is editor in chief at Economisch Statistische Berichten (ESB)and Assistant Professor In macroeconomics at Utrecht University and a board member of the Royal Dutch Economic Association
