Dear Friend and Member, In 1994 a small group of like-minded companies launched an initiative that would allow local companies, colleges, governments and non-profits to share knowledge and collaborate on initiatives promoting sustainable business practices within their organizations and the region. West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum has served as a support network for two generations of triple-bottom-line practitioners, playing a critical role in distinguishing West Michigan as the nation s unofficial capital of sustainable business, helping to popularize green building, sustainable product design, beyond-compliance practices and savings-driven sustainability. The past year has seen banner accomplishments for the organization, playing a key role in the Governor s Recycling Initiative with its Solid Waste Task Force, leading a resiliency education project, launching a green labs initiative, and experiencing record attendance at its monthly educational events. Your support is needed to keep this exciting momentum going strong. On Thursday, November 5 the forum will celebrate West Michigan sustainability with the Second Annual Triple Bottom Line Bash at New Vintage Place in Grand Rapids, featuring the Sustainable Business Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Last year s inaugural event was front page news for both the Grand Rapids Business Journal and Grand Rapids Press/mlive. The Triple Bottom Line Bash is the forum s only developmental fundraising event. Its success will determine our ability to invest in new programs and initiatives during the year ahead. I ve attached a sponsorship packet with further details on the event and sponsorship levels. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. 2 Our M ission: To promote business practices that demonstrate environmental stew ardship, economic vitality, and social responsibility. In 1994 a small group of like-minded companies launched an initiative that would allow local companies, colleges, governments and non-profits to share knowledge and collaborate on initiatives promoting sustainable business practices within their organizations and the region. One of the first organizations of its kind in the world, West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum has served as a support network for two generations of triple-bottom-line practitioners, playing a critical role in distinguishing West Michigan as the nation?s unofficial capital of sustainable business, helping to popularize green building, sustainable product design, beyond-compliance practices and savings-driven sustainability. This November the forum will celebrate its work with the Second Annual Triple Bottom Line Bash, building on the success of last year's sold-out inaugural event that became the signature function for local sustainable business professionals of 2014, and front page news in both the Grand Rapids Business Journal and Grand Rapids Press. The past year has seen banner accomplishments for the organization, playing a key role in the Governor?s Recycling Initiative with its Solid Waste Task Force, leading a regional climate resiliency planning project, launching a green labs initiative, and experiencing record attendance at its monthly educational events. Your support is needed to keep this exciting momentum going strong.
2nd A nnual Triple-Bottom Line Bash, Featuring the Green Family Feud The forum?s flagship fundraising event celebrates sustainability in West Michigan by bringing fun to a serious and at-times overwhelming topic. This year we will match notable local sustainable business factions and attendees against each other in a triple bottom line version of the iconic game show hosted by a noted local comedian. 3 We've moved to a larger venue at New Vintage Place, bringing along the great food, good drinks, and networking that made last year's event a hit. Individual tickets are $100 each. The TBL Bash features the forum's signature award programs and the debut of the 2016 membership directory and annual report: The Sustainable Business of the Year A w ard Will honor the company that best represents the values of the triple-bottom line. The winner will be chosen by a vote of forum members. A committee of past WMSBF presidents, Hall of Fame honorees, and other experts will be responsible for nominations. The West M ichigan Sustainable Business Hall of Fame Honors the individual practitioners that have made the greatest contribution to sustainable business in West Michigan. A lifetime achievement award, the 2015 class of inductees will be selected by a combination of membership vote (3) and the nominating committee (1).
